Very nice, smooth sipper of a beer tried on tap at Founders. Reminds me of a smoother version of other barley wines or old ales I’ve tried. Nice darker amber color with minimal head and lacing. Smells great, sweet malt mixed with a little bourbon and fruity hops. Tastes of bourbon, malt, brown sugar, fruity sweetness with minimal bitterness, caramel, vanilla and maybe the faintest hint of wood. Nice smooth mild mouthfeel, decent carbonation. Hard to discern the wood barrels though. High ABV but the alcohol taste was still fairly well-hidden. A dangerously smooth, strong beer that encourages you to take more than just little sips.
