Very Good
Unraveled IPAUnraveled IPA
Notes: Formerly 'Mothership Series #7: Mucho Lupu'

We unraveled some of our favorite American hops to get to the juicy goodness inside. Dry hopped with traditional hop pellets along with lupulin powder, an innovative hop product that separates lupulin from the hop flower, Unraveled IPA is incredibly flavorful and aromatic. Wheat and oats form a smooth backdrop to carry all those wonderful hop characteristics, while the pour is beautifully clear.

Hops: Amarillo, Azacca, Mosaic and Simcoe

Pours a hazy yellow with a decent white head, fades quickly leaving a nicely laced glass.
Very aromatic, pineapple, grapefruit and hint of lemon, the taste reflects the aroma but it's not so pronounced. It has a nice feel, good carbonation. By the time I finished this, the sweetness went off the charts. It will not replace Centennial!

Hazy orangish-yellow, thin white head, decent retention and lace
Pineapple, grapefruit, and dank aroma
Flavor reflects aroma,
Feels a bit thin
Not sure how I feel about this one. If it hadn't been labeled "juicy", I'd probably give it better marks

12oz can poured into a tulip

A- pours a bright clear yellow with a one finger foamy white head that has great retention and leaves some lacing behind

S- grapefruit zest, orange pith, pine needles, bready malt

T- juicy citrus notes of tangerine and grapefruit up front, followed by undertones of pine and zest. The finish gives a bready malt undertone with more citrus in the linger

M-medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a crisp finish

12oz can into a tall beer flute.
L: Pours a fairly clear chill hazed pale gold straw color. Medium carbonation. Thin soapy white head with fair edge retention.
S: Honey, wild flowers, lightly caramelized malts.
T: Medium sweet apricots, tangerine, orange, grapefruit. Well hopped and there is light resin/bitterness in the medium finish.
F: Juicy, hop forward and fortified but the hops aren't too aggressive and brisk with a medium bodied mouthfeel. It is lightly soft towards the end.
O: A very easy drinking hoppy IPA for it's 6.6%ABV and simply an excellent example of a contemporary American IPA.

Poured a 12 ounce can into my 17 ounce Belgium tulip glass..Got got a nice carbonated fluffy white 2 finger head, with a tangerine, candied mango profile that drank very smooth..

This is a nice beer, it isn't a NEIPA, but a very fruity bursting American ipa that has alot more tropical fruit notes than I'm use to.. After my first can i will tell you that this is a quality brew that will make it's way into my rotation..6.6% abv with absolutely no alcohol burn, and goes down smooth..Cheers.

Nice somewhat hazy golden ipa with a thin just offwhite head, pretty decent. Love the fruit tropical nose I just wish there was a bit more of it. Ya know, I was expecting more of a fruity somewhat sweet IPA with gentle bite, but that’s not really what this. The fruity hop character is fleeting followed by a malty bitter finish. Medium thin feel with ok carbonation. Not my favorite. UT has this at 3.79 so I may be over rating this slightly.

Look: Hazy gold color.
Smell: Slightly juicy and tropical aroma.
Taste: You can taste the fruity/tropical hops but it is not too overpowering, definitely on the mild side.
Feel: Thinner feel with good carbonation.
Overall: Love this as an easy going ipa that I could drink multiple of in a casual/social setting. Definitely one of my favorite's by Founders. I would put it in the same tier as All Day IPA. Would definitely reccomend.

Surprising Founders beer. Known for their IPA but this speaks to hazy notes and very drinkable beer. No ibu’s! Lots of taste. No lacing but good color... again surprise from founders in its hazy beer. Good one. Would drink again!!

Can into pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy pale gold with a nice off-white head; good lacing. Initial impression is orange, grapefruit, mango, light caramel, and berries. Mouthfeel is middle-of-the-road, as is carbonation. Finish is fairly juicy with only slight residual bitterness. Overall, a competent if unremarkable AIPA.

Unraveled IPA has a medium, creamy white head, and a slightly-hazy, bubbly, gold-yellow appearance, with some splotchy sediment. The aroma is of pineapple acid and white bread. The flavor is similar, with moderate bitterness. Unraveled has a high-medium body and a mostly-dry finish.

Bought a four (16oz.) pack for $7.99 that was canned on 10.26.20. Pours to a clear golden color with frothy white head and some lace. Aroma of lupulin hops is prevalent. While this is called a Juicy IPA, it is mostly hoppy and dry. There is some mango sweetness to start, but the finish is pure hops -- Amarillo, Azacca, Mosaic and Simcoe. I do like the complex taste, but it is not was I expected. At 6.6% ABV, it has a creamy mouthfeel and is smooth and crisp. This is a good one that I will be buying again -- from a brewer that mostly delivers on their beers that they offer.

15 pack of 12oz cans for $17.99. Canned on 9/23. Considering I bought this at Meijer in January, is that why the very attractive pricing?

Pours out to a slightly hazy (not NEIPA cloudy) dirty blonde forming a nice sticky bone white head with very good retention and lacing. Carbonation is moderate ~2.5 carbs or so. Nose of pine, some mango/pineapple and just a touch of MJ skunk, mostly tropical fruit. No off flavors or aromas. The taste is a recap of the nose...nice malt body with some lingering sweetness with a medium firm herbaceous and leafy bitterness. Mouthfeel is not quite as thick or juicy as most NEIPAs and finishes dry eventually.

Overall, this is a nicely brewed NEIPA but not quite in my favorites as the mouthfeel is a little lacking and the bitterness is a touch too brisk for my tastes in the the style. For the price though, it's definitely a good bargain and I would buy it again if I were in the mood and my favorites weren't available. Considering it was canned 09/23, it still tastes quite fresh and no off flavors.

12 fl oz pull-tab can nabbed in sixer format for $8.99 USD plus tax at a beer store in New Orleans, Louisiana.

"Juicy India Pale Ale." 6.6% ABV. 50 IBUs. Brewed with wheat, oats, lupulin powder, and traditional hop pellets.

Served cold into a dimpled mug.

Pours a filtered yellow that lacks the vibrance and clarity I'd expect in a filtered IPA (especially from a brewery as renowned as Founders).

Soft and juicy with floral and citrusy hop flavours alongside wheat malt and 2-row. The hop profile doesn't dazzle but it's likeable if a bit shallow in comparison to top tier IPAs.

Smooth, wet, and refreshing. Medium-bodied. Well carbonated.

Founders' IPAs have never dazzled me like their darker ales do, but this is a drinkable and refreshing brew that's fairly priced. I'll enjoy casually drinking my sixer, but even at $8.99 USD/sixer it's not a beer I'd pick up again if only because there are so many better expressions of the style available in all the same markets that are cheaper still (e.g. Sierra Nevada's Torpedo, Lagunitas' IPA or Little Sumpin Sumpin, et al.) - nevermind those IPAs that are a hell of a lot better and cost about the same (e.g. Bells' Two Hearted).

I like it but don't love it, and its hop profile isn't all that impressive.

C+ (3.16) / ABOVE AVERAGE

TASTE: More juiced hops, with no bitterness at all. A delicious modern American IPA.

Sixteen ounces four pack copped from Bottle King in Livingston. Pours a viscous, golden hue with extreme and fluffy frothing. Assertive aroma replete with hints of pear and green apple. Crisp, medium bodied mouthfeel combines with a silky blend of candied grapefruit and luscious green grapes. Refreshing.

Pours light golden yellow with a thin finger if head. It reeks of citrus hops. The taste is crisp, a little dry, citrus, a little bitter but very tasty and well balanced. It doesn’t have a ton of stuff going on but it a straightforward, medium strength IPA and it goes down really fast, and easy. Probably more of a warm weather IPA whereas the Centennial is more suited for cooler temps but I’ll never refuse one of these if offered. 4.25/5

Appearance – This came out a beautiful hazy deep yellow with a tinge of orange and a full, fluffy white head.

Smell – The dry-hopping is very apparent at the note with a dry orange aroma and some light pine cone.

Taste – This is a light-flavored ale with some good orange rind and a wisp of grapefruit, those malts are scarce.

Mouthfeel – This is light-bodied and very dry, probably too dry for the uninitiated.

Drinkability – The lupulin craze has officially made its way to Michigan. I enjoyed this easy drinker and appreciated Founders’ efforts at this new extraction process but it likely will be a bit too dry for most.

Pours a clear golden color. A thumbnail length head shows very good retention and lacing.

The nose is sweet, floral and fruity with notes of herbal hops. Malty aromas of caramel and honey interact with fruity notes of mango, papaya, banana, melon and apricot. Dank aromas of pine resin and grass evoke traditional IPA notes.

Opens sweet with chewy and mouth coating caramel, honey, graham cracker and biscuity malts. This firm malt backbone supports juicy hops, including notes of grapefruit, candied oranges, mango, peach, apricot and berries. Yet, it is the developing resiny bitterness and piney and herbal spices that make it interesting for me. The finish is dry and resiny.

Medium bodied with a mouthfeel that alternates between smooth and crisp. The carbonation is moderate.

A juicy IPA but not quite in the hazy/NEIPA category as it features some classic qualities, including bitterness. Not bad overall, although I don’t think it will become a staple in my fridge like other Founders offerings.

16 ouncer with "CANNED ON 9/29/20" stamped on the bottom.

Into a tulip, the our here is lightly hazed, lighter, near golden amber, under a lasting and stored cap. Leaves good looking sheeting.

On the nose I get a solid blast of lime, with a back ginger note.

On the palate it is again a load of lime/ginger, plus some flowery notes, sealed with some hoppy and dry finishing notes.....not bad...decent value and decent tasting and feeling mass produced "Juicy India Pale Ale"....

12 oz can, dated 9/4/20, into BIBCO Willie Beecher.

A foggy champagne gold with a finger of head that leaves a wall of lace and recedes to a 1/4 finger.

Aroma is filled with lemon and grapefruit, with pleasant lemongrass and lavender, honey, fresh grass field, and slight biscuit.

Flavor follows somewhat. Lemon and pine out front, followed by grapefruit peel and lavender. Some heavy dusty biscuit malt comes up from underneath. It's very bitter and peel-y. Little to no sweetness. It is a little juicy.

Feel is crisp and juicy. Has some moderate alcohol heat. Drying, stabbing finish.

Overall, a juicier (though not sweet) version of a west coast IPA. It's very heavy on the citrus peels and pine sol. Wouldn't return to.

Founders Brewing Co. "Unraveled IPA"
12 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON: 09.15.20-0940264" and sampled on 11.17.20

Look: Hazy golden body beneath a full head of bright white foam; similar to that of a Belgian witbier. Average head retention; better than average lacing. Haze is forgivable sue to dry hopping.
Smell: Brightly aromatic. Citrusy with notes of grapefruit, lemon, and orange as well as apples and berries.
Taste: The flavor delivers a softer version of the hops found in the aroma with some added pineapple, lime, and a touch of pine. The malt is basic, and the bitterness is firm but not bold. It finishes dry with less lingering fruit than you might think, and a dusting of pine.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp.
Overall: Great aroma but otherwise it's pretty standard fare for IPAs these days. Still worth trying. Great summer beer.
