Growler at DLD. Thanks alot Chris.
Pours a very nice dark brown in color with a nice foamy head. Smell is vanilla hazelnut and it works! Taste is much the same, with some slight chocolate and dark fruit underneath. Good beer. An improvement on a already well done porter.

on tap at founders 4/30/08
poured into a nonic glass

color was dark like a regular porter, thin to no head

smelled of coffee and chocolate, thinner complexity

the vanilla was light, on the back of the flavor, upfront was the complexity of a porter with the coffee and chocolate etc, very standard. the lightness of the vanilla was nice, complementing the porter overall.

thinner mouthfeel, to the style

overall very drinkable, any porter fan would not disagree that founders handles the style properly.

Very dark inky brown marker. A mocha head fades quickly into a powdery top.

Vanilla and roasty dark malts. Coffee and caramel aromas. Dark fruits and a slight hoppy aromatic.

A very fine vanilla porter. Not overly sweet with vanilla and well integrated with the coffee and roasty malt character. Vanilla adds a nice layer of complexity. Coffee, caramel, burnt figs and a of a toffee in the middle. Rich and full of chocolate and hints of black tea.

An interesting tap room release here by Founders...

The pour is standard porter black, though the head is fades away quickly. The nose is lightly roasted malts, though nothing particularly remarkable.

The flavour on this starts out average porter: i.e.: roasted malts. chocolates, but about midway through the vanilla takes over and makes its presence known.

The mouthfeel and drinkability on this are both in that average range.

The bottom line: The name tells you pretty much all you need to know about this beer. Take the standard Founders porter and then add a vanilla note to it about halfway through and you'll have a good idea of what is going on here. I enjoyed it.
