Wow this one shocked me. In a good way. Absolutely incredible Russian imperial stout. Tried the nitro version of this one on tap at Founders. Looks absolutely amazing - deep dark rich brown, almost black color with a thick white cap of head and glorious dense sheets of lingering lacing that lasted forever. Tough to beat that! Smells of bourbon, oak, medium coffee and milk chocolate, light toasted nuts, creamy vanilla, caramel, malt, brown sugar and bread. Taste follows the nose, with an excellent amount of depth, complexity and richness. Also a hint of raisin and fig. Smooth, gloriously creamy, slightly sticky, luscious mouthfeel and just the right amount of carbonation. High ABV was fairly well hidden and even as the beer warmed the alcohol hit wasn’t intense at all. Dangerously easy to drink. This has got to be one of my top Russian imperial stouts of all time. Better than Founders’ BBA Imperial Stout, Bell’s Expedition Stout and Firestone’s Parabola.
