An aging on vanilla beans and cocoa nibs compliment the coffee, and provide more vanilla and cocoa flavors and aromas. Lactose sugar was used in the brewing process to lend a smooth and sweet finish. This version was aged in bourbon barrels to add an awesome twist to this already complex delight.

Poured from a 12-oz bottle purchased at the brewery into a tulip glass.
Appearance: Golden-orange with a massive off-white head that lingered, leaving a ring of foam and nice lacing.
Nose: Sweet stone fruit and dried fruit, some alcohol.
Mouthfeel: Medium, adequate carbonation.
Attack: Wonderfully complex: Light grain, sweet stone fruit, alcohol, depth.
Finish: Alcohol continues and resolves in light hop bitterness.
Overall: This blonde ale is a sipper — a very good one — not a session beer or salad or light meal accompaniment. Most excellent!
Additional: The more this ale warms, the more reminiscent it becomes of an English Old Ale in front of a wood-burning fireplace on a cold winter evening. I’ll try to save one of the four-pack for January, but no promises! (Note added 2/15/24 — I did save one, till a cold evening in February. Perfect!)

I tried this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a four sample flight whilst in Grand Rapids for "guys beer weekend". It poured a clear copper color with white head that left a spotty lace. The scent had grain and booze notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet malt base coupled with rye and booze presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.
