The beer pours a nice brown color with some reddish tinge. Poured it from a growler less than an hour after obtaining it from Founders and there was almost no carbonation to speak of. The head was non-existent, just some flimsy lacing holding together in wisp like suggestions of lightly browned bubbles masqurading as head. I get that it's a session beer. But, the brewery bills it as a "session red" with American style hops. The complete lack of carbonation that accomponied the mouthfeel was unacceptable. I don't know if it was the bartender's fault in filling the growler or not, because I did not sample this beer at Founders. The flavor itself was actually rather well balanced. It defintely leaned more towards a malty profile, with caramel malts creating a nice, pleasant and rounded flavor. The hops provided enough balance, and were evident, but were seemingly content to play a supporting role in the beer. The hops used were simcoe and cascade, but absent were their strong piney/citrusy flavor profiles and I was more than ok with this direction. It was a very drinkable totality of a beer, despite its one major flaw in my instance.
