Introducing KBS Double Oaked. Our original KBS stout, brewed with coffee and chocolate, is aged for one year in select bourbon barrels, which introduces subtle notes of vanilla, cocoa and charred oak. After the aging is complete, we then finish KBS on fresh oak to amplify these flavors – thus creating KBS Double Oaked. Truly a sophisticated beer tailored for bourbon and beer enthusiasts alike.
Style: Barrel Aged
IBU: 45
Hops: Nugget, Willamette
Malts: Wheats, Oaks, Chocolate, Roasted Barley
Tasting Notes: Notes of chocolate, caramel, coffee and vanilla with distinctive oak character. Moderately sweet with some bitterness and a full body.

12 ounce bottle, bottled on 09.24.24, thanks to Brutaltruth for this one! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stuck around a little while. Good amount of lacing, too. I like the aroma, the brew smells like chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, coffee and a bit of bourbon. Taste is similar to the aroma, with the addition of some burnt/charred malt, oak and earthiness. However, the flavor doesn't seem to have quite as much of a kick (still tasty though), and the barrel character is light too. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's smooth and a bit rich with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this one, maybe I'll have to try a fresher one next time if I wanted more of a barrel kick but that's my fault for putting this aside for so long.

I don't care how many times I see it, the name of this beer is Double Caked. That damn O looks like a C. No, I don't know what double caked would mean. That's not the point.
Beer's good though.

Pours near black, though ruby brown at the edges, light cocoa head formation around the edges. Spotty streaks of lacing. Nose is coffee up front before dissipating to more sweet bourbon notes, vanilla, oak, milk chocolate; not a ton of char. Taste, however, is very wood forward (as would be expected from the name). Sweet and spicy rye, milk chocolate, tannic, tobacco and cigar smoke. Feel is thinner than I recall the base KBS with only moderate chew. Carbonation is present but overall light and creamy. Good, but think the base beer is far superior.

(review from November 2024) See previous reviews of various versions/variants of KBS, this iteration w/good balance/mouthfeel/aroma; a javaish/choco/cocoa/oakey/vanillaish/slightly bourbony flavor & a nice lingering, sweetish, mouthcoating finish. Again, not as much evidence of any barrel-whiskyish aging until it warms up but once it does, the flavors finally come through.

Excellent KBS variant. Strong barrel presence but not overwhelming. Yum

If it had a bit more body, it would be close to perfect. As it is, it ticks all the other boxes.
