L - Mahogany with a light tan head that dissipates quickly, leaving behind some lacing. Some amber highlights
S - cocoa, caramel, raisin, fruit cake, cherries - really sweet on the nose
T - follows the nose - cocoa and caramel up front and throughout. Finished with a cake batter/dried fruits, raisin, and figs. Butterscotch. Llight bourbon sweetness on the backend
F - medium bodied with moderate carbonation
O - a nice barrel aged lager - something different for barrel aging. I like it.

Pours a reddish brown, dark but translucent with bit of off-white foam. Smell is bourbon and vanilla. Flavor starts with malt and molasses, but the barrel flavors come on quickly and carry through the after taste. Mouthfeel is quite smooth, light carbonation and alcohol dominating. Overall, this is tasty, but more as a bourbon cocktail than as a beer. It's very hard to barrel age a medium body beer like this and not have the barrel dominate as it does here.

Had this on 2026-02-24 near Pittsburgh, PA from a 12oz bottled 2025-10-09
L - Clear dark ruby with a 1-finger tan head and mild lace
S - Mostly bourbon, milk chocolate and caramel
T - Espresso latte with an eye drop or two of bourbon and a vanilla swizzle stick. No roasted flavor.
F - Medium-full body and light carbonation. Smooth.
O - This is a very approachable and flavorful Bock. Just what I was in the mood for on this wintry day.

Pours a dark reddish brown with a 1/2F head and light filmy lacing.
Smells of chocolate and bourbon.
Tastes of chocolate oaky bourbon, caramel and vanilla with a slightly bitter and decidedly boozy warm finish.
Medium body with very light carbonation. Lightly lush and syrupy mouthfeel.
This is a very tasty , mid strength sipper. It's a bit like KBS-lite. I do appreciate the un-cloy and the relatively light body of this brew.

Bottled 2025/10/09
Pours a fizzy bubbly off-white 1/2 finger head with moderate retention, a little lacing, crystal clear cranberry to auburn color
Nose brings plenty of fresh bourbon barrel juice up front, vanilla, buttery oak, sweet bourbon, sweet malt, caramel, toffee, a little cocoa, sweet syrup molasses
Taste brings more barrel but not as dominating, vanilla and buttery oak barrel, some bourbon sweetness, caramel, toffee, molasses, brown sugar, butterscotch, mild cocoa and chocolate but not a lot, mild bitterness, a little alcohol, touch of coconut chocolate candy, semi sweet finish, cocoa really starts to come through as it warms
Mouth is med bod, med to lower carb, light warming alcohol, mild soft lagering
Overall OK, not sure why they would add cocoa to a bock, and it's a bit on the sweet side, barrel was nice, bock in general would have been nice without the cocoa and overly sweet characters

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear light brown color with a tiny head of fizzy foam. The head fades very rapidly, leaving just a trace of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strong of a deeply toasted brown bread smell mixed with lots of chocolate and a bit of coffee. Along with these smells comes a good showing of sweetness with a sizable showing of caramel and molasses along with notes of brown sugar and maple. Rounding it all out is a little bit of wood and some nut, along with hints of earthiness and a touch of bourbon.
Taste – The taste starts with a big and bold toasted brown bread and burnt biscuit malt flavor mixed with sweet flavors of molasses, caramel, and brown sugar. At the same time there is some fruit of apple and pear, as well as a hint of raisin. While light upfront, some wood, coffee, and chocolate develop as the flavor profile moves forward, adding a bit more heaviness to the brew. Toward the end, a nice nuttiness, a touch of earth, and a hint of Bourbon booze join in, all while the sweet fades a tad, leaving one with a rather robust but approachable taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is rather thick and chewy with a moderate carbonation level.
Overall – A rather big and bold bock with an easy approaching nature and taste.

Gilded Bock from Founders Brewing. One four-pack picked up at Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA, 30/11/25, $ 12.38 (including tax)/$ 0.258/fl oz. Reviewed 05/12/25, review 3649. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
“Bottled On 10.09.25” on back label. Stored at home at 37 degrees F. Served at 51.9 degrees F in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. The final temperature is 55.2 degrees F.
Appearance – 4.25
First pour – Medium Amber (SRM 12), clear.
Body – Deep Amber (SRM 13), opaque. Under direct light, the same. When rear-lite, red-orange and clear.
Head – Average (Maximum 2.3 cm, aggressive center pour). Almond, average retention, leaving 0.2 cm crown, with a large center atoll.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 4 – Weak caramel and cocoa, no hops, no malt, no alcohol (8.0 % ABV according to the label).
Flavor – 4 – Begins slightly sweet with cocoa and caramel. The bourbon and barrel promised on the label fail to appear. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl. Slowly building gastric warming from the alcohol is noted.
Palate – 4 – Medium: More than watery, less than syrupy: Soft but lively carbonation.
Style: Follows the scanty BA style description.
Final impression and summation: 4.25 Uncredited label art. No hint of the BBA, unless the faint caramel isn’t from the malt used. Anyway, this is a good take on a chocolate bock, another good alcohol delivery system from Founders with a very acceptable price point.

Very very good, slightly different but perfectly executed only just beyond my expectations, so still familiar (in a good way) Founders man...

We all know Founders barrel game. It is very good, great, and outstanding at times. But Gilded Bock is a different animal. The greatness is off the charts here. Brewing prowess at its finest. The balance of dark lager flavors, bourbon notes, and cocoa is sublime. What strikes me here is how the sweetness is kept in check with a perfect drying nature that presents itself and perfectly balances every available note. Body is just a bit lighter than expected, but that increases drinkability. Before you know it, this beer is gone. It's hard to sip. Don't pass this one up
