Vertigo Winter Wheat

This brew was served from the tap at The Blind Tiger in New York, NY. It arrived in a generic pint glass. The brew glowed a cidery orange color, holding a one finger tall white head. Retention was okay, leaving spotty lacing around the glass. There was insane haze, and no sediment was noted. Carbonation appeared lighter, and the brew had a thick, syrupy look about it. The nose was mild, with wheat, cooked barley, and lactic milkiness. Fresh citric hop bubbled up from the back, with honey nougat sweetness, and ripe banana esters. Our first impression was that this brew was very pale, but had a nice hop bite on the back. Upon sipping, pale malts, wet wheat, and vanilla coolness overtook the mouth. Lemon and citric hop bitterness also became immediately apparent. The peak showed wheaty, salty bite, with bananas, chemicals, and Band-Aid phenols. The finish was peppery with booze, and of biting bitterness from the hops. Here they grew, with more florals and soap. The final flavoring was with cleanliness, of clean grain, wheat, and mineral. The aftertaste breathed of those bittering grassy hops, melon sweetness, wet wheat, and bubblegum esters. The body was medium, and the carbonation was lighter. With each sip came a cool coating, with little dryness. Nice slurp and smack accompanied each frothy sip. The abv was appropriate, and the beer drank easily.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about this brew was the nice hop inclusions. These afforded a nice bitterness to complement the softer, more sour grain. It actually becomes quite bitter by the end, and the hops seem to overpower the inherent wheatiness that should have been the star of the show. The hops were thus, not quite overboard, but at times too much for the style, which was otherwise nicely put together.

Poured a hazy yellow into a pint glass with a good bit of head. Head lacing remained on the glass as I drank the beer.

Taste was refreshing with slight lemonness and wheat.

Refreshing beer that's very drinkable, nothing overly complex or special about this one for me, but a solid beer that I would drink again.

Had on tap at The Pony Bar- poured a hazy yellow color with a two finger head that quickly dissipated and left nice rings of lacing

Smell is not particularly strong- soft wheat and a little lemony.

Taste is more interesting- nice full light wheat flavor, a little lemon, and a little earthy yeast towards the end.

Refreshing for sure- nice light body with light carbonation. Nothing exceptional but certainly not bad.

A: Pours a cloudy light lemon yellow with a finger tall bright white head. Head retention is excellent with 50% of it remaining through the drinking of the beer. Significant lacing is observed.

S: Very light aroma with some subtle citrus hops and spices.

T: Very nice wheat flavor with hints of citrus, spices, and clove. The finish is a very pleasant citrus hoppiness.

M: Light to medium bodied with light to moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Very nice with a hints of hops that is not usually present in a wheat ale. Very refreshing and I would like to have many of these. Easy to drink and sessionable.
