This was a decent beer for John Harvards. There aren't too many apricot ales out there, so it's very hard not to compare it with Magic Hat's more excellent #9. The Golden apricot had a very strong apricot taste, but it felt less integrated into the brew than the #9, almost like it was an afterthought in the brewing process. This beer was less complex as well, almost one-dimensional. Good mouthfeel, easy to drink, and a worthwhile pint, but I won't shed a tear when its kegs have run dry. This review is for the brew at John Harvards in Washington, DC.

This is obviously very similar to Magic Hat #9, but does not compare. Aroma and flavors of apricot are not nearly as pronounced. The color is a very light golden/yellow with no head and a very mild aroma of wheat and apricots. Light grassy flavors are detectable in addition to the hops and a somewhat malty finish. Not bad, but I've had much better fruit beers.
