March 2016: 330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet Verksgata, Stavanger. BB date Nov. 2014. ABV is 7%. Very dark brown colour, nearly black. Low beige head. Nice roasty aroma with notes of chocolate, vanilla and coffee. Nice roasty flavour too, plenty of character without becoming too bitter. Notes of coffee, some fruit / prunes, chocolate and a hint of vanilla, moderate hops.

Can. Pours black with a thick tan and frothy head.
Smells of coffee and charred toast.
Tastes of strong latte. Quite sweet with a mild bitter hop finish.
Silky smooth feel. Low carbonation.
Enjoyable.

Very dark brown color, cappuccino colore foam, beautiful.
In the smell chocolate and coffee, some bitter roots note.
Velvety taste, again coffee. Full. Green nuts, vanilla, even liquorice. Round and pleasant.
Quite a lot of herbal bitterness, rhubarb, liquorice.
Some sweet fruity note (dates) and plum.

Dark brown-reddish colour, thick head. Smell of burnt cereals. The taste is mainly driven by the coffee and roasted malt, with some dried fruits and the bittery hops. Great dry long-lasting aftertaste. A classic beer I would say, always recommended.

L- Deep black, only a tiny glint of ruby red when held right up to a light. Pours with 3mm tan head, reducing to lacing.
S- Roasty toasted malts. Coffee.
T- Pungent, fast into... well, espresso depths of coffee flavour. Deeply toasty, quite unlike any other beer I recall having for the power of the coffee notes. I honestly just re-checked the lable to ensure this isn't brewed and then coffee added; nope! How they get this pungency I have no idea.
F- Pungent. You can feel 7.0%ABV clearly, perhaps enhanced by the bitter(ish) coffee edge. Surprisingly it doesn't net-out as rich at all, it's very cleverly balanced.
O- This is certainly a very different beer. I expect it might help if you enjoy drinking strong coffee - which I do. I'm not a born drinker of black beers, but this 'thing' is fascinating and very different. Would I drink it again, hell yeah!
330ml bottle, BB: 07/2020.

Nice brown head. Smell: lemon peel, coffee beans. Taste: same. Nicely balanced, smooth but kicking. Somewhere between Sierra Nevada Stout and BrewDog Libertine. Would have it again.
