Damn this stuff ain't half bad. The reviews show a lack of appreciation for lager style beers and straight up window lickers of the style. This is a good triple bock and priced well.

Random supermarket find, bombs away. Pours into a tulip glass with little fanfare, a thin film on the surface and a bright glassy orange color to it.
Butterscotch candy aroma, big and sugary, somewhat one dimensional but not bad when cold.
Flavor is cloyingly sweet, somewhere in the realm of cough syrup and squeeze bottle butterscotch topping. Ever just drink that stuff? Then this is the beer for you my friend. Harsh astringent alcohol on the back end. Peppery would be putting it lightly. To be honest, it's as if some medicine were mixed with sugar so a kid would swallow it. Slick and syrupy, boozy and incredibly sweet. Some oxidized malt notes surface as it warms. Low carbonation.
This is more of a Tripel Malt Liquor than any Doppelbock. Gross stuff, curiosity got the best of me after seeing the red bottle hang tag proclaiming 12% abv. Avoid.

Out of a bottle this beer was a hazy orange color with one finger of off-white head. The retention was ok and the lacing spotty. The aroma was subtle, centered around sweet malt and vodka-like booze. The flavors were of caramel, raisins, dark fruit and, of course, booze. Still, for nearly 12% ALC I was amazed by how drinkable it was. It was also notably better than the 9.5% ALC beer made by the same company under the same name. The mouthfeel was good, the body medium and the carbonation mid-level.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a Sam Adams pint.
A: Pours clear, golden-orange color with one-half finger of off white head. Minimal retention and lace.
S: Sweet fruit, banana and cherries. A little too sweet, but pleasant.
T: More sweet fruit-- stewed plums and cherries, also light caramel. Hot alcohol on the finish, but really not bad. After a few sips, some pepper joins the finish.
M: Smooth, fair amount of oil.
O: It's a little short on refinement, but really not that bad. Pretty reasonably priced. Worth a try.
