I hadn't been to Amberg in a few years, so I was surprized to find the relatively new Schloderer Bräu right downtown near the Rathaus. And seeing an OFest on tap, I just HAD to indulge in a few 0.5l glasses of the golden nectar.
Pours a medium to dark golden, with a frothy, rocky 1", light tan head, which sticks well in the glass. Bier also has a slight touch of haze to it. Head pares down slowly, but stays at a creamy 1/4". Nose is bready and crackery, with hints of sweetness. It is a solid medium as far as body is concerned, with a nice, inviting smoothness on the palate.
Flavor is comprised of lots of chewy, bready malt, with a solid base of style-appropriate sweetness. Hop presence is a bit more than most, with a tinge of spicyness combined with floral notes. The latter lingers quite nicely. This is one I really like! Had I not had to get back to Rothenburg, I'd have parked here and" OFested" the night away.
Zum Wohl!!
