From the expired half liter bottle, it pours a clear light golden color with a nice large white head that lasts a bit. Malty scent in the nose, malty taste in the mouth, slightly sweet. Yum!

Sampled on tap at Annafest 2007.

This beer poured a dark amber color with creamy, white foam that clung to the mug. The smell was spicy hops and malt. The taste was dry malty with a touch of sweetness in the finish. Good spicy hops and some woody notes. The mouthfeel was smooth with medium body and modest carbonation. A nice, dry malty flavor lingered pleasantly. This was a good, quite tasty beer, and good in a full liter.

A perfectly clear amber fills up the glass, showing very little carbonation and only a small and short-lived head to speak of.

Nose and palate are defined by a good amount of malts, which gives a sweet, caramel-like and slightly dry character to the beer. Fruitiness and a trace of hops are present as well. After the second pour, yeast seems to become more apparent. The flavor finishes nicely in a hoppy fashion.

The only problem I encountered with this brew -- or maybe this particular bottle? -- is the mouthfeel. Though the body is all right, the level of carbonation is way to low (much lower than other beers in this style), resulting in a flat and weak texture. Hopefully I can try this nice beer again sometime.

---

A second bottle of this beer gives a much better experience. Mouthfeel is not as weak, but quite lively and firm. Moreover, hops seem more pronounced and add to the complexity.

Poured a foamy off-white head that faded to a thin film leaving a few specs of lace. Aroma of dark bread and spicy hops with a touch of caramel. Full malty flavor as it hits the tongue. Bitterness picks up midway through with a bit of grassy hop flavor that's a tad rough. Finishes with a nice mix of the malt and hops. Soft, smooth mouthfeel. A nice Festbier. I could sit at a table under the trees drinking this for the better part of a day.
