Bottle; no date I can see; old bottle style, so I know it's from at least fall 2016. Nonic pint.

A: pours a slightly hazy brownish amber with two and a half fingers of highly persistent beige head. Little visible carb. Nice lacing.

S: perfect ESB! Toasted malt, sweet citrusy cascade hops, like a candied orange dipped in syrup. Like Betgamot oil; Earl Grey tea. A little earthy dankness.

T: arrives full on bready, with the expected lightly sweet citrus. Malt bomb mid-palate turns to a woody, earthy, hoppiness, then a highly astringent finish. Again, Earl Grey turned to Beer! Perfect ESB.

M: heavier side of midweight, higher carbonation, very astringent end.

O: move over Sam Adams Boston Ale, there is a new dog in town! For an American-made ESB, I honestly cannot say I have had one better than this, and that is saying a lot given this bottle is at least eight months old. I will make this a regular buy from now on. In the world of ideal forms, this is about as close to the ideal ESB as it gets for me (apart from the fact that it's 8%; I'd rather it be 6, so I could drink more than one responsibly at a sitting). I'm going to give it a coveted 5 overall; not perfect for the style, but perfect for my ideal ESB. Almost like an American take on an English barleywine; some similarities to aged Bigfoot. Not really English but perfect for when I want a beer that feels English.

From the bottle: Pours a gorgeous Amber color with a fine 1.5" head. Aromas of Apple cider, dark fruits and some spice. Taste is similar, adding in some malt and median bitterness. A decent mid-range brew. Worth the coin.

Damn fall release so that make this beer well over 5+ months old.
A - Well that explains the lack of head just a mild sticky lace ring. Beer color is a deep orange amber color with some carbonation bubbles.
S - Smell has some citrus hop and a slight herbal tea. Hope it doesn't taste too skunky.
T - Actually it's quite good. Starts with a bit of citrus hops in reminiscent of DIPA's then it sort of fades to your typical herbal tea splash of ESB's. Maybe it's the caramel/toffee malts that does it. I could image fresh the hops being much stronger.
M - Best part of this beer is how well the ABV is hidden. Drinks like a 5-6% ESB.
Overall I enjoyed this beer but didn't love it. I may have it again fresh and change my score but I really like how well the hops and herbal tea flavors meshed in this brew.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazy dark copper with a one finger off-white head. Pretty good head retention and nice lacing clinging to the sides of the glass.

Aroma is very floral with some citrus. a little bit of light caramel as well and some toast. Quite nice.

Flavor has light floral and citrus hop flavor up front transitioning to caramel, toffee, and a little toasted malt. Some nice earth flavors in there really help bring out an autumn character in this beer. Bitterness is moderate and the beer finishes slightly sticky with no alcohol detectable whatsoever.

Overall, a really nice fall beer that I would never guess was 8%. Drinkability is not very high due to the abv but definitely a beer to seek out.
