This classic American amber ale is brewed with caramel malts to balance the hops with the malt sweetness and to add rich color. Regardless of the beer changing names in different regions, this beer is a nationwide favorite.

Poured a nice ruby amber with a small half inch head and no real lacing, nice hue, and good overall appearence. Smell was unremarkable, perhaps a bit of bread, and some yeast and grain, but what was there was weak, Taste was actually fairly decent. Earthy, grainy tones, a hint of caramel sweetness. Great mouthfeel and consistency. This is a very sessionable beer, not as watered down as a couple of the other Hops brews. Went well with the grilled chicken sandwhich, not half bad.

Much karma to Enola for sharing his growler with me.
Pours a ruby color with a thin head. Some carbonation bubbles inside. Thin lace covers the sides of the glass.
Smell is of caramel and some smokiness. Interesting aroma for a red ale.
Taste is very earthy almost peat like. This is a malt dominated beverage, hops take a back seat. Some of the caramel and smokiness is also noticable in the flavor, but not as dominate as the aroma. Mouthfeel is somewhat thick for the style. It's a good hearty ale.
Drinkability is good.
Overall it's a good BBQ beer. As I drink this I can just imagine how good it would be with some nice Hickory Smoked BBQ.

This beer is fair for a red ale. It is average in color for a red ale. The smell is typical for the style. No harshness is noted in the taste. Certainly better than mass produced red ales. The mouthfeel is absent of harshness too. I could drink this beer again. I have a growler to finish of it now.
