bitterness like an ipa, not a lager.

The label on the bottle says this is "a golden lager with a sligh malty sweetness, delicately balanced with the spicey, zesty notes of the Tettnang and Saaz hops. Lengthy cold conditioning delivers a smooth, crisp sessionable lager." Can't argue with the appearance: gold, and the head on top is fluffy white, sitting gently on a steady stream of carb bubbles.
The nose is very nice, giving off grassy notes under a sweeter, floral, basil-like aroma. Yeast and a bit of booze also passes through.
Bready malts in the mouth up front. Balanced toward the bitter end with bittering hops and a mild dose of peppermint hop flavor that dashes through in the finish. Light-medium bodied, easily quaffable. Recommended.

It's a very smooth lager, pretty good summer beer. The coloring is fairly light, a golden color, but the beer packs more of a punch than its appearance suggests. It has a nice flavor that isn't overbearing and actually had more flavor than I expected given its lighter coloration. The aroma isn't anything special, but in my opinion that's not really significant factor in my choice of beers anyway. I think this is a pretty good microbrew and I will definitely have more in the future!

Rooney's Lager
Pennsylvania Brewing Company
A new release with mass appeal being contract brewed at Penn Brewery. Aroma is bready, buttery with some diacetyl pretty apparent. Not the cleanest lager in the world, but has a few good characteristics. Some biscuit, mild hops, moderate to low bitterness. Soft bread and a touch sweet. Very plain but ok for the casual drinker. Standard lager here, about average at that.
