500mL bottle, BBE 02/2026.

Appearance: 3.25. Very slightly hazy amber yellow with a white head.

Smell: 3.5. Grassy hops and biscuity pale malts.

Taste: 3.25. Biscuity bready pale malts and grassy hops. Minimal bitterness.

Feel: 3.25. Smooth with moderate carbonation. Slightly watery mouthfeed.

Overall: 3.25. An okay lagery Oktoberfest bier, not as rich or flavourful as some of its rivals.

I noted to BA monitors that Zotler's Festbier should, in fact, be styled as a Festbier. (I'm so easy to get along with.)
Zotler does not seem to have lots of distribution outside its conservative corner of Bavaria. But I bought my copy at Utobeer at Borough Market (near London Bridge station) and the owner told me they sell a fair share of Zotler and get it through a special connection that they kept after Brexit. So that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

In my new rating scale in which a "3" is average... Zotler's Festbier is clearly above average. Authentically traditional too.
It Looks like the real deal with a full foam leaving a lovely lace on a light amber body. Smells are slightly above average for this style that usually leaves my olifactories to imagine hops. But they are there in the Taste; entering mid-palate and sustaining their presence thru the finish. Medium-mouthed. I again might try this Festbier in a few Falls from now.

L- Pale gold, clear with a nice looking 3mm fine-bubble head that's holding well. [ps. holds well and forms lacing on the way down].
S- Mild, though I do get grain and a sense of a malty bouquet.
T- Nicely balanced on the front, hops vs malts, then on swallowing there is a residual minor zing on the palate. [If not in the habit, or when with congestion try swallowing then inhaling while quickly opening and closing your mouth slightly a few times and slapping your tongue around your palate.... always accentuates a milder taste where a bit of help is needed with a milder taste - sorry / granpa's tips end there]. The zing^ would appear a combo of hops mostly, and perhaps the 5.8% is just coming through a touch alongside.
F- Lovely balance between malty richness and sufficiently bright hops. Very trad and eminently sessionable if you're in a 'Festy' kind of mood :) It comes over as pretty solid, so you might want to start it off well chilled, esp. if expecting to slowly sip through it (say while slowly typing in a review of it :)).
O- Lovely balance of the aspects, especially difficult to achieve (it seems) where the end result is understated vs shouty where 'flaws' are much easier to hide. Very trad, people who might like a bit of drama or adventure could eaily conclude it is a bit dull. But what it achieves is something truly Bavarian, difficult and polished.
Bought from Trembling Madness, York. 500ml bottle BB 25/3/25 £3.30

Despite 3 years in Germany I only ever tried one other Zotler beer during and since, ie I suspect the brewery is small and it's output stays primarily in the deeper-Bavaria area (that region can have such uber-parochial products) just north of the Swiss/Italian/Lichenstein borders.

golden, clear, medium bubbles, pillowy head
spicy noble hops and bready
spicy, grassy and in particular herbal hop flavours throughout, Pilsener malt acts as background canvas upon which the hops shine. ends bit a nice bitter and minerally note
carbonation well integrated in medium body
overall another convincing Christmas Spezial, Festbier or however you want to call it.
