Bottle:
A murky rusty chestnut body greets my eyes. Atop this is a slow-to-grow veil of near-off white/light beige head. The main portion of this fades back into the depths, leaving a thin ring to remember it by.
Initial whiffs bring huge bourbon and barrel notes. A more toffee to even maple sweetness comes out shortly, as does the barrel apple-butter like tang.
Taste starts with a near sour barrel tang, a light cherry/lime like note. Brown sugar sweetness tries to counter, and does a fair job of it. The mixture is like an over-limed bourbon and coke, with just enough bourbon so that you can tell the bartender didn’t cheat you completely. The light, fizzy nature of the feel helps further the mixed drink impression.
The tang of the this beer is more than I’d like. There are some decent malty notes that combine with the bourbon to provide some interest, but I’m forced through that tartness, one which it took me until the end to debate if it is intended or an anomaly. Seeing the other reviews, I’m even more curious.

Appearance: Arrives chestnut colored with a thin film covering; minimal lacing
Smell: Caramel and Bourbon tones dominant, with spice cake and butter pecan elements, as well
Taste: The caramel, spice cake and butter pecan flavors lay down a sweet opening with the Bourbon emerging powerfully, in the mid-palate; oaky but sweet finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with low to moderate carbonation
Overall: A bit too sweet (though Doppelbocks have that tendency) but to my palate it lacks some of the dried dark fruit tones that add complexity

Burnt amber-copper with a thin, creamy tan ring.
The aroma has a substantial bourbon presence that is paired with maple, cola and charred wood.
Taste is peanut brittle with caramel, toffee, biscuit and bourbon oak.
Smooth and round with a fuzzy fizz, the finish is semi-dry to dry and tingly.
