On tap at Stoneyard American Craft Beer Hall and Grill in Webster, NY.
This one pours a very dark and deep black (big surprise, right?), with a small, wispy head, and no lacing.
On the nose is a lot of brandy, and I mean a lot of it, with some definite oak, a bit of vanilla, chocolate, and roasted malt.
This is a boozy mofo of a beer here, the barrel is super strong, with tons of sweet brandy, bitter charred oak, sweet milk chocolate, barrel-derived vanilla, and a hint of roasty bitterness on the finish. I'm not sure it's better than the base, or the regular Bourbon BA version, but it's still quite nice.
This is certainly a slow sippin' beer, took me about 45 minutes to get through a 10 oz pour. It's pretty creamy, and relatively full bodied, not super thick. It's got an appropriately subdued level of carbonation for the style.
Thirsty Dog really has one of the better barrel programs in the country, and I feel like nobody really notices it. This is awesome stuff.
