I have two of these clearance bastards sitting around and I guess it's finally time to start in on them. This pours a dark reddish-brown with a small heard that fades immediately, leaving a very thin ring of bubbles. The aroma is quite pleasant to me. It's spice but not overpowering. I'm getting cinnamon and nutmeg for sure, the usual winter warmer things. There is some brown sugar and raisin notes. Taste follows. It's good! Lighter and smoother than I was expecting, but the rum compliments the base beer well. Mid-bodied, light on carbonation, nice little sipper that isn't overpowering. I could use a lit fireplace right about now.

From the groovy looking bottle in a snifter. This solid
little brew pours a muddled copper tinged brown with
a light head of off white foam that settles to a thin ring,
faint dusty layer, and sports some faint lacing. Nose of
rum, raisin, herbal spices of ginger and nutmeg, dark
brown sugars, and touches of orange zest. Flavors present
themselves nicely with rum, oak, brown sugar, white raisin,
ginger, faint cinnamon, subtle nutmeg, and light orange
zest hints. Nice mouth feel; medium body, faint carbonation,
lightly slick, and a sweet warming finish that is faintly dry.

Overall, the Thirsty Dog folk know their craft, and this one is
solid!

Cheers-----and Happy New Year!

1 PINT .9 Fl. Ozs. bottle
Served in a snifter

This beer pours a deep rust color with copper highlights. It has a slight haze. It is topped with an inch of tan head that leaves spotty lacing.

The smell is rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and orange peel.

The taste is much like the aroma. I get spicy rum, allspice, and orange peel. The cinnamon is subtle.

Medium bodied with a smooth mouthfeel

I think the rum barrel was a good choice in which to put the base beer. The rum seems to meld better with the base beer for my palate.
