Another surprise cask at the Winking Lizard second annual cask ale festival. I hit this one a few times as it was probably my favorite beer of the day (even considering the Goose Island Vanilla Bourbon County was outstanding). This was just a magical display of depth of flavor. Described as Thirsty Dog Siberian Night Russian Imperial Stout brewed the normal recipe then fermented with the Orthus yeast and aged on a bed of fresh cherries.
Nice dark black beer with a white head that sticks, very impressive coming off the cask.
Smell is cherry and tons of it, roasted malt, dark chocolate, Belgian yeasty impressions of more cherry and some tropical hints.
Taste is perfect. Wow, I've had a few 5's in taste recently, I feel lucky, but I'm honestly trying to hold back. But this deserves it easily...chocolate soaked cherries, touch of dark Belgian chocolate, this yeast + cherries +roasted malt = win!
A touch thinner on cask than the tap/bottle of regular Siberian. This was its only weak point.
Drinkability was exceptional. The bomb. Hope to cross paths again.
