On tap @ Blues and Brews 2010. This was brought out of retirement for a day and was served in a tower with fresh raspberries.

Black with red/mahogany highlights. 1/4" white head sticks around. Looks nice.

Smell is mild citrus hops, fresh raspberry, caramel malt, mild roast, and the Thirsty Dog raspberry puree. Nice but not enveloping.

Really nice taste. Raspberry and chocolate/caramel without the artificial notes observed years ago in the Fairlawn pub. The fresh raspberries didn't introduce too much taste-wise, but they did add just enough freshness. The malt is too caramel oriented for me, but it's good.

Mouthfeel is too light, almost watery but drinkability is nice. I enjoyed this and felt like I was in the right place at the right time. Eat your heart out Dr. John.

appearance is dark brown with a head that dissapates faily quickly. hardly any lacing

smell is strong of raspberry with a slight hint of a burnt, roasted aroma.

taste- very strong in rasberry. i would have liked to have more chocolate and coffee flavor. but it was still refreshing

Mouthfeel was too thin IMO. with the deep rich color, i was expencting more depth to the feel. somewhat watered down feeling.

Drinkability is hurting a little becuase the raspberry flavor is so strong. i had a 23oz. glass of it, and by the time i was about 2/3 done i was getting sick of the flavor.

overall- besides the color i really didnt see much resemblance to the old leghumper porter. it reminded me much more of the raspberry ale. it was a nice change of pace though. very refreshing and easy to drink until the raspberry gets old.

This essentially is a combination of their Raspberry Ale and Old Leghumper. When the two were mixed from my sampler it was quite good but not nearly as good when the pint came out. The sampler mix had a strong roasted espresso note upfront but chocolate seemed to be the focal point and raspberry just adding flavor. But the pint was much more heavy on the raspberry. Too much raspberry and not enough chocolate. Also, the raspberry was way too sweet and not nearly tart enough. The body was on the light side but it was a smooth beer. I just got sick of the raspberry about midway through.

Took the taste test..at .50 per sample. $$$ well spent.

If this was how Raspberry Beers tasted, I would order them at brewpubs. The only other Rasp/Porter I had was an unintended mixture of Nitro Porter/Raspberry beer at the Cumberland in Louisville which I thought was great, until I tasted this beer.

You can read my seperate reviews of the Raspberry and Legthumper but when I sampled these together, I was amazed. The Cumberland RP did not mix as well as this one. (I think that was because the Cumberland used a real raspberry mix as opposed to this "extract" Raspberry)

There is a sweetness to the TDR and not syrupy and when combined with the excellent porter blends really well and enhances a great porter with a welcome raspberry taste. This was the beer that prompted me to bring in my growler and get one to take home. Very unusual and very very good. Great summer dessert beer, because it reminded me of eating a slice of raspberry-chocolate cheesecake.

Served as a sample at Thirsty Dog in Akron. The color was a dark amber, with a ring of white head. The smell was raspberry sweet, with a hint of coffee malt. The taste was a nice mix of the raspberry sweetness and the chocolate and slight coffee of the porter...neither really dominated the other. Mouthfeel was smooth. As for drinkability, could have quite a few of these.

Not a bad fruit porter at all. A fruit beer where the fruit isn't the centerpiece, but rather adds to the experience. Certainly one I'd consider if I was at Thirsty Dog again.

Has the same dark mahogany look as Old Leghumper. There is a very roasted and full set of aromas with the added complexity of some fruit sense. The smell of raspberry is quite pronounced. It is not nearly so strong in the flavor which is more balanced. The raspberry nose sense is similar to the Raspberry Ale that stands on its own without the porter base. A decent blend of two interesting beers.

Apparently this brew won a gold medal at the GABF.
Great raspberry aroma that does not carry over to the flavor. I am guessing this is a blend of the Old Leghumper and Raspberry Ale, and it is a great breed. Roasted chocolate flavor and an excellent experience.
