This dark amber ale hailing from Belgium is unfiltered. With a mild fruitiness and clove spiciness similar to the Weizen, this beer is dryer with a tart finish.

Poured into a pint glass.

A - Appearance is a bit on the side of a light amber. A bit hazy with copper hints present. There was a thin head present with the brew and some sticky lacing.

S - Clove and some spice are present. Corriander and some slight pepper with some slight pear juice notes.

T & M - Taste of cloves and some spice. There is some sweet fruit juice notes to it as well. The flavor is a bit underwhelming. Some yesaty notes but not a true funk. Flavors are ok. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean with a slight dry finish.

O - not my favorite from these guys but in no way bad.

Visited Square One Brewery on 7/9
Served in a pint glass.

A: This beer pours a ruddy copper color with no head. Minor wispy lacing left on the glass.

S: Nose is of clove, corriander, hint of yeast and a mild tangerine note.

T: Taste starts nice and light - some pale malt flavoring mingled with a hint of tangerine. Yeast fills out the middle with a healthy dose of clove. Some mild pear notes in the finish a sharp splash spicy corriander.

M: Medium body, medium carbonation, oily body.

D: Goes down relatively smooth, nice kick, decent representation of the style. A nice beer to enjoy one or two of, but not much more.

The saison here at the Square was a very nice example of the style - only drawback was the bartender dispensing a stadium pour in the shaker pint glass, eliminating any head or lace.

Besides that, a nice cloudy amber with aromas of fruit and bubblegum. Tasty quaff of spicy malt with hints of light fruits like apple and pear. Easy to drink and almost a session style with lower alcohol hovering around the 6% mark. I could drink these all evening, but bounce around with all the offerings they provide

Pours a cloudy, amber/brown color with a lighter golden on the bottom of the glass. 1/5 inch head of a white color. Decent retention and decent lacing. Smells of sweet malt, slight tart malt, hops, and yeast. Fits the style of a Saison. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an low carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, hint of grass, slight tart malt, slight citrus, and a hint of hops in the finish. Overall, strong malt flavors but lacking in yeast and citrus. Still a good body and blend, though.

Clear, slightly hazy dark copper color. No head, no bubbles, no nuthin'--looks like a dead fish.

Smells of earthy yeast, cinnamon, nutmeg and coriander with hints of orange rind. Borders on Xmas spice territory.

Earthy caramel with nutmeg and coriander. Hints of cantaloupe. Not bad, just different. Mouthfeel is stagnant and thin with none of the distinctive Saison drying.

Overall it smelled pretty good and the tasted alright, albeit a very personalized take on a Saison. The poor presentation killed this beer from the get-go.
