Pours out a very dark and rich brown with hints of blood orange in the light. The head was big and throthy and dropped into a nice lace around the insides of the glass.

You can smell the malts straight away, with a very strong sweet chocolate aroma, with caramel. There is a hint of hops in the nose, but it is pretty much overpowered by the malt, which is what its supposed to be like.

The taste is sensational. Lot's of chocolate, hazelnut and caramel. The malt profile is amazing in this beer, and it is my favourite of the "regular" Colonial beers. It's like drinking liquid chocolate.

Very moderate mouthfeel, and amazingly easy to drink. It's smooth as silk. Fantastic effort by Colonial. Great stuff.

This solid brown ale was my introduction to the Colonial Brewery, served on tap the Royal, East Perth. Almost jet black in colour, with no transparancy. Black malt aroma, with a small spicy hop presence. This beer is somewhat touching on the American Brown Ale style as well as the English. A little more body than other brown ales, but lacking on the caramel presence that I would have expected. hints of chocolate and cocoa. A nice beer.

Dark brown in colour with a reddy/mahogany tinge. Medium sized tan coloured head. Some lacing. Aroma of brown sugar, roasted malt and caramel. Rich roasted malt and coffee flavour. Some bitterness in a reasonably long finish. Mouthfeel is chewy and filling. Medium bodied and low carbonation. Another good one from Colonial next to their Spruikers Challenge.
