Tallboy can purchased at the LCBO earlier this year; listed at 3.7%. Dated Mar 26 2020 and served slightly chilled.
Pours a clear pale yellow colour, its body strewn with flocculent sediment; situated atop is nearly an inch of soapy white foam that collapses within ninety seconds or so. A narrow collar and filmy-thin cap are the only survivors - not a speck of lace at first, with minimal deposition later on. It smells of grainy pale malts and apple juice, but that's about it as there's absolutely no nuance or detail to speak of here.
It does taste a bit better than it smells - grainy pale malts, crackers and corny cereal sweetness comprise the majority of the profile, though I'm also getting touches of apple fruitiness early on, as well as a hint of straw towards the finish. Apple flesh and gritty grains linger into the aftertaste for a moment. Light in body, with aggressive bubbles that are verging on overcarbonation - extremely crisp, with a prickly mouthfeel. Kind of bloaty, which limits its drinkability - normally I can let that slide, but not with a style that is intended for swift gulping.
Final Grade: 3.13, a mediocre C+. Magnotta's Backyard Light Lager isn't anything to write home about - by craft light lager standards, I'd say it's weaker than average, though I suppose it's still tolerable enough to work in a pinch. The overcarbonation is my main gripe, but the 'apple'-forward aroma and thin flavour profile are also problems for me. I realize that this isn't a particularly fresh can, so if I come across a younger serving I'll be sure to pick it up and update this review, if the experience is different. If it's not, well then that'll be the last time I bother with this one.

Pours golden coloured with a small head on top that dissolves within seconds. No smell to speak of. The taste is bready and typical for a light lager. I will say that this beer is very effervescent. The bubbles tickle the tongue more than I’m used to. Over all, not too bad for a light lager. Similar to most.
