Dark, dry and roasty but not particularly astringent or bitter, this American style stout has a little crystal malt sweetness to balance the roasted barley.

Arrives a dark brown color with a small tan head that recedes quickly into sparse lacing. The aroma is light woth some roasted malt, and some burnt malt. The taste follows suit. The mouthfeel is on the lighter side with a watery texture. Overall, this beer is a disappointment.

Tan head. Black in color.
Smell is nice. Reminds me of a baby darkness.
Taste is terrible. Overly roasted and tastes like tar and burnt rubber. It takes like a Belgian stout. Much like the mikkeller beers.
I couldn't enjoy this one.

On tap at Surly’s Beer Hall. Served in a 16 oz. glass.
Appearance: Color is jet black. Solid finger of tan head with decent retention.
Smell: A nicely roasty and dry dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, coffee, and biscuit. Dark roasted barley malt with a scent of chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, caramel, smoke, and yeast. Subtle hints of earthy hops. A pretty solid smell.
Taste: Like the smell hints at, a roasty and dry dark malt forward taste with notes of chocolate, coffee, and biscuit. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of chocolate, coffee, biscuit, toast, smoke, caramel, and yeast. Light notes of earthy hop bitterness. A pretty good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Drying and very smooth.
Overall: A very good take on a regular American Stout. Good dry roasty malt flavors with a smooth moderate body.

Deliciously dry and roasty with a bit of sweetness. A perfect medium mouthfeel with just a hint of a chocolate covered coffee bean. I think I'll be coming back for this one!
