Simcoe and Chinook promises a winning hop bill (for me, anyway), and this has a lot of nice pepper and spiciness and earthy dank citrus that I was hoping for. The malt backbone is pretty minimal -- some cracker, some light bread - and the mouthful is a little thin. I was hoping for something with a little more body and even a few more dirty/herbal and spicy notes, but...as is, still enjoyed it.

Poured on tap at Surly Brewpub into a tulip glass.
Golden orange amber body color, fairly clear. A light but white and bright bleached head of a finger presented. Falls with nice ring like lacing a bit while drinking.
Aroma has a nice hop mix of pine and earth notes. Slight citrus mix hints towards orange juice as well. Earthy notes get a bit dirty with tangerine sweetness in the mix. Not much malt accent but a pleasant and diverse hop presence.
Palate hits with a sharp hop pine like blast on first sip. Spiced mild hop characters seem to come next in the mid palate, and finally some sensing soft malt body and flavor to round everything out nicely. Real herbal to spicy and pine finish with a great kick that nearly hits peppery. Mouthfeel is a bit light and a bit borderline session feeling as well.
A pretty decent IPA with a bit of a weak mouthfeel unfortunately, but very solid and worth a go for sure.

On tap at Surly’s Beer Hall. Served in a 16 oz. chalice.
Appearance: Pours a bright golden orange with a moderate amount of bubbles. Good two fingers of white head that slowly settle into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A very juicy hop forward aroma with a scent of ripe citrus fruit and pine. Citrus hop scent of orange peel, grapefruit, mango, tangerine, apricot, melon, and pineapple. Earthy hop hints of pine resin. Malt hints of caramel, grains, and cracker with yeast. A very solid aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a juicy and earthy hop driven taste with big notes of citrus fruit and pine. Upfront citrus hop notes of grapefruit, orange peel, mango, apricot, tangerine, melon, lemon, and pineapple. Earthy hop notes of pine resin and a little grass. Background malt notes of caramel, grains, and cracker along with some yeast. A really good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Juicy and oily with a drying finish.
Overall: Another great batch of this IPA. Big citrus and pine hop flavor.
