Called Rusty Nail. Poured a light brown with amber highlights and a one-finger, tan head of foam. It smelled of black licorice, scotch and toasted malt. It tasted sweet and boozy with a strong scotch flavor, oak and vanilla.

Intelligent Design Series #1: Rusty Melvin: Barrel Aged Spiced Scotch Ale
On tap at the brewery. Deep brown. Smells heavily spiced and boozy, mostly. Cinnamon, clove, whiskey or something. Smells like bitters. Tastes like someone dumped a bottle of bitters into it, too. Extremely strong spice. Oak. Alcohol. A bit of sweetness, but not a ton of beer back there. Heavy and alcoholic. Rough and not all that much fun to drink.

Aged in 2nd use high west rye whiskey barrels.

Khaki head. Dark brown color.

Black licorice shows a lot. The barrels remind me of rum. Dark fruits and molasses all around. There is a spice flavor that shows. The rye whiskey notes are no where to be found, until it warms up a bit. If I hadn't known, I'd have thought rum barrels.

This beer just wasn't for me. Too much black licorice flavor going on.
