Very Good
Sleek IPASleek IPA
Notes: Purring with aromatics from hefty Simcoe dry-hopping, Sleek’s grapefruit, pine, and melon flavors race across the tongue. Dynamic hop taste. Zero drag. Sleek.

Had on tap 16 oz tumbler. This beer is underrated in my opinion.
Pours semi hazy orange with 1 finger white head
Smells is tropical orange juice.
Flavor follows with a dry finish. Almost a hybrid of NE and west coast ipa.
Super drinkable. Mouthfeel is pretty light so makes it easier to crush. Pretty good beer

Poured from 12-ounce can into a stemless wine glass. Slightly hazy pale golden colored body, topped by a billowy white cloud of foam that eventually settled to a thin cap. Huge pop of grapefruit and pine upon opening the can. Big aromas and flavors of grapefruit, pine, and tropical fruit. Substantial and slightly silky mouthfeel, with lots of resiny bitterness. Not much sweetness to speak of. Finish is quite dry, with a touch of pine resin lingering on the palate. The oat malts provide body and balance without getting in the way of the hop character. Well made and delicious, as I've come to expect from this brewery.

12 oz can....filled about 6 weeks ago according to the info on the bottom.

Pours with a medium haze, fluffy cap and leaving some larger bubble lacing on the glass.

Resiny hop sniff with some grapefruit.

Resiny is the key word here...biting grapefruit on the palate, along with ample lime...long and lasting, yes, resiny finish

Poured from a single-serving can into a tulip.

Pours a hazy (not NEIPA cloudy) shimmering apricot gold with limited head but an excellent skein of foam and a persistent full ring of lacing. A pretty beer. The oats provide a nice effect here.

The aromas are strong, balanced, and inviting. Sweet and bitter all at once. Strong pine and white grapefruit bitterness meet pineapple, honeydew, and crackery-malt sweetness, with floral and grassy notes as well.

The sweetness takes more of a backseat on the palate. Pine resins and grapefruit pith dominate the tip of the tongue. Honey-kissed graham and pale cracker malts arrive in midstream, and the oats round things out. The finish features citrus zest, grass, and white pepper.

The brew is definitely medium, after reflection, but seems lighter than that. Very well-carbonated and nearly crisp at the finish, there is nevertheless a rounding creaminess (from the oats again?) that mellow it in that respect. Quite drinkable.

Another facially aggressive, but still balanced and drinkable IPA from an outstanding upper-Midwest brewer.

Appearance: Pours a bright effervescent, light orange color that is completely cloudy, but not quite hazy. A very minimal white head. Almost none.
Aroma: Aromas of grapefruit, airy pineapple, orange citrus, and pine. Not too bitter or peppery on the nose. Pale malt if any. A little bit of plastic band-aid.
Flavor: Flavor follows the nose with strong grapefruit, unripned and airy pineapple, orange citrus, pine. Some milk.
Feel: Mouthfeel is light but crisp. Zero head but decent carbonation. It has a slight sediment hazy feel, but lacks the creamy milkiness that is showcased in some dry-hopped NEIPAs. Still a very good mouthfeel.

Overall: A nice showcase of Simcoe dry-hopping. Doesn't punch you in the face. Non a standout beer. Less tropical notes than I would expect but it's really quite a light and smooth beer for someone that doesn't want to sell out $5 for a local dry-hopped IPA. Definitely captures the flavor well. This may become a popular style after the NE craze dies out.

12 oz can poured into English pint glass. Canned on 03-13-2019. 6.5 abv.
Light straw color with definite haziness, cloudy.. White head dissipates to next to nothing on surface.
Very nice aroma of light fruit, hops, pine.
Taste is a delicate balance of fruit and the right amount of bitterness. Balance works very well. A splash of citrus with a wonderful bite of bitterness. This mix keeps the sweetness to a minimum and thus a refreshing relatively refreshing clean finish.
Medium mouth feel with a nice tingle carbonation. Seems proper.
Purchased as a single and will for sure purchase as a multi pac. Very nice change of pace beer that seems to fit in between the established styles. I would recommend.

Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a dense white head. Dank hop notes on the nose with big grapefruit and pine notes, which makes sense with the Simcoe hops.

The grapefruit and pine are even more pronounced on the taste, and the mouthfeel is to style. My expectations for this beer were limited, given the ratings, but Surly crushed this, IMHO.

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a 12 fl oz can on March 17, 2019. Brewed with oats for a rich mouthfeel without added sweetness. Sleek IPA features malted oats, flaked oats, and golden naked oats as a base for a hefty dry-hop dose of Simcoe hops.

Partly cloudy, light gold body; relatively thin yet frothy head. NIce floral and pine resin aroma. Fair malt base flavor with a bitter, pine resin flavor. Medium body; crisp, sharp, and biting on the palate; balanced sense of sweetness and dryness on the palate.

A solid American IPA, not too intense at any level yet delivering some excellent hop crispness and bitterness.

Slightly hazy, golden. Smells just like many other hazy IPA's. Taste is muted citrus. It seems a bit restrained and doesn't let the hops shine through. Feel, which is supposed to be "Sleek", leaves me wanting more. I love Surly, but this is beer is just another decent, but unspectacular, slightly hazy IPA. There's a sea of similar beers out there as the mature brewers try to cash in on the haze craze. It doesn't differentiate itself from the pack like many of Surly's early beers did.

12oz, canned on 12/20/18. Thanks to my friend, Derek, for giving me a couple of cans to try. Golden body with a slight haze to it, thinner white head fades to a thin layer of foam. Floral hop aroma with tropical fruit and citrus; oaty malt in the background. Hop forward flavors, very floral with notes of lemony citrus, mint, grapefruit, passion fruit, melon, faint pineapple, and a bit of nutty oat malt flavor. Medium body, very resinous, ample carbonation, dry finish. Too floral for my liking. Usually I love all things Surly, but this was a miss for me.

12oz can, snifter glass. Cloudy pale golden yellow body, one finger white head, fair retention and a bit of lacing. Smell is grapefruit and pine, caramel and a light biscuit, dab of honey and a bit more pine resin. Flavour follows; light grapefruit and a touch of lemon zest up front, herbal resin, caramel sweetness and pine resin on the backend, a bit of sap. Solid and classic, though I'd like a little more grapefruit. Mouthfeel is medium lighter bodied, good carbonation, pine resin bitterness on the backend.

Single canned 12-20-18. Any new hoppy offering from Surly is worth shoving deep into my throat.

The pour – it looks like an IPA! Not orange juice slurry, puree of pineapple, or any other fruity concoction. Amazing. Light yellow with an aroma of citrus, melon, & light sweetness.

Sleek takes me back to the distant year of 2014, before haze swept the land. Unfortunately, it was also the Year of the Mediocre IPA. This one is caught between worlds. There’s a decent amount of bitterness, but it shoots off its mouth as melon rind, orange rind, rather than honest hoppiness. Pithy, with too much malt backing mid-palate. The Finnish is muddled, with floral notes joining the fray. Very dry, which is nice. One & done for me.

Not sure what Surly was going for here. Simcoe has been my favorite hop for a decade & this does not showcase its considerable talents well enough. Good enough.

Has a slight haze (I see oats listed as an ingredient so I suppose why it has haze) and small head. A little bit of lacing. The aroma is Simcoe amazing. Notes of grapefruit and melon. I do not get the pine. The flavor is bit of letdown. Nothing bad but the hop flavor is not as powerful as I would of liked. Bitterness is not a lot but is probably high for the NEIPA lovers. Has some malt sweetness that balances out the bitterness. Good body and texture which is probably helped again by the oats. Nicely carbonated.

Pours a slightly hazy, light orange with a thinner, white head.
Smells of a wonderful, crisp citrus hop. More on the melon side.
A wonderful, spicy, peppery citrus hop with a tad bit of dankness. Slight onion and garlic. Resinates PINE.
Nice mouthfeel, slightly oily.
This is a wonderful, slightly dank citrus IPA.

Not as assertive of an IPA as I expected. Very nice evergreen forest aroma...floral....a bit of citrus...

Flavor is pine but with a bit of a pink grapefruit citrus dimension.

Body is medium..finishes dry....decent bitterness....a bit different....decent enough and drinkable

I received this in a BIF box from @vidblain. Canned on 7/26/2018 and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass. It pours an orange-honey color. The thin, ecru-colored head dissipated almost immediately. The nose features lemon peel, bubblegum, slight melon, and subdued hops. The taste opens with more malt than I expected and a base of caramel. There follows a blast of pine and resinous hops and it finishes decidedly bitter. It has a crisp, fairly light, mouthfeel with lively carbonation, and the 6.5% ABV is no impediment to drinking. While Sleek is an adequate American IPA, it suffers by comparison to Surly's outstanding offerings.

12oz can with a date on the bottom. About 3 months old at the time of the review

This is a pretty standard IPA, and that may have been the point. Bitter up front with some alcohol taste and a decent malt back. Tastes boozier than 6.5%, and there's an odd off-flavor at the end... It does smell amazing, pure Simcoe arm pit

I've made better homebrews. And I'm terrible at home brewing

This is dull and boring. Aroma has some complexity but is hardly a hop forward presentation. For an IPA it takes too much work to discern what's going on. Flavor is even less interesting and less intense. Some softness in feel, but also in flavor and intensity. There are no mistakes here, this is a professional brewery, but this offers nothing to entice me to come back.
If this is what a Surly $17+ 12 pack offers this is will be the last one I buy.

From a 12oz can:

Appearance: Slightly hazy yellow, good head.

Smell: Cracker, citrus, very dry.

Taste: Interesting malty/citrus mix. There's also a kind of earthy, almost anise-like note in the finish.

Overall: Part of a mixed hoppy 12 pack from Surly, this is a pretty generic IPA, the finish is kind of different/interesting as there seems to be a anise/licorice note to it.

12oz can, free sample from the brewery.

Pale golden hued brewing with a brilliant clarity, great lacing on this brew as well. Grapefruit in the nose and on the palate from an assertive hop character that throws down a stern bitterness. Balance is there as the maltiness goes cracker-like and stays on the palate. Long lingering hop flavor of grapefruit rind, evergreen, green tea, & pink peppercorn. Get a little hay-like in the finish as well. Leans dry with a kiss of alcohol. Lots of fun this IPA is, way to easy to knock back.
