From a 12oz can:

Appearance: Slightly hazy yellow, big head.

Smell: Mild tropical fruit aroma.

Taste: Mild sweetness, pineapple, moderate bitterness.

Overall: From the Surly hop pack, this is a decent but mostly forgettable IPA. Some tropical fruit flavors, Gets the job done but not too exciting.

Once upon a time, I used to love the debut of a Surly IPA – now that they’re chasing fads like a black lab, not so much. But hey. Let’s be optimistic about this 12 oz. can.

The pour looks like an IPA used to look like, golden, fairly clear, I can see my middle finger behind the glass. Head that doesn’t quit after a half hour, for those who care about their beer as art. Almost neutral in the nose, with a touch of grains & pine, but more like a fresh mountain breeze.

Dots & Loops IPA is as saltine cracker as I’ve every tasted in a beer. Tons of saltines (sans salt) up front, which is very distracting. Very earthy, swampy, with mild pine. Soft. I don’t want a full pour.

Not sure what Surly was going for here, but if it was a sub-par, muddled, muddy IPA, they hit the nail with precision. A bad beer.

12oz, canned on 06/24/19. Thanks to Ken for giving me a can to try! Hazy but not opaque golden body is capped by a thin off-white head. Floral citrus, tropical fruit, grass, and pale malt scents. Bright burst of juicy hops - lemongrass, grapefruit, pineapple, piney mango; malt is light with maybe some wheat in there; I do get some floral lemony soap flavors that I'm not crazy over. Fuller body, moderate carbonation, bitter yet balanced zesty finish. I really wanted to like this more, but it ends up being in the good - not great category for me (7/10).

Good mix of the West-coast, Hazy, and Bright IPAs. Refreshing and tasty while also being easy drinking.
I hope that Surly makes this available in 6-packs! Can't wait!

Appearance: Pours a hazy, light orange juice color with a moderate white head.
Aroma: Strong aromas of pine, spruce, juniper, grapefruit, pineapple, and orange juice citrus. Lots of citrus and pine aromas. No tropical notes.
Flavor: Flavor follows the nose with delicious pine and citrus flavor. Really emphasizes the airy pine of spruce and juniper without being too citrusy and having too much pineapple. Just the right balance of pine and citrus that I prefer. A mild to moderate bitterness on the finish. Some light caramel and English biscuit. But finishes very dry.
Feel: Smooth, light, clean. Minimal bitter astringency.

Overall: Wow, a really fantastic IPA. It has traditional west-coast flavors of pine and citrus, but doesn't overdo the citrus like some do. It even has some floral English emphasis . It's not juicy. It's classic west-coast, but instead of a hop bitterness to wipe it all away it allows a subtle pine flavor/bitterness to linger to emphasize the genuine and natural pine forest. A new, yet under the radar, yet fantastic IPA that I could/will definitely do again.
