L-Cloudy burnt orange

S-Some citrus..some spiciness.

T-Huge rye impression that carries notes of anise and cardamon as well. The citrus is almost completely overwhelmed.

F-Medium bodied.

O-I usually like rye beers but this is way unbalanced and the rye gives off some other notes I'm not as fond of (anise). Not my thing.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium, but pale orange color with a moderate white head. SRM of 12. (3.75)

Aroma: Mild aromas of stonefruit and tropical upfront. Then some cherry that dissolves into a licorice spice.

Flavor: Flavor follows with stonefruit, strawberry, cherry, that follows into a licorice spice and slightly plastic candy (Good & Plenty) flavor. Mild to moderately sweet. (3.75)

Feel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. A nice spice and peppery astringnecy on the palate (4.00)

Compared to Surly's Furious IPA 10/25/20: Pours a lighter color. More stonefruit and strawberry. Less citrus, resinous tropics, and pine. Winner: Furious when fresh.

Overall: A unique and interesting IPA. The rye provides a unique licorice spice-type of flavor. Yet, it maintains good fruit flavors too. Finishes nice and dry and all-around it's a well-crafted IPA. Not sure how the licorice spice will rub off on some people, but for now this beer is pretty good and I will give it a good rating. As usually Surly can reliably deliver. This one might not be up to Surly standard, but is still a good IPA. (Final Rating:

12oz can with a 'canned on' date

Clear, orange, cap of foam. Typical great looking beer from Surly. Smells wonderful: grass, lemon, honey. Taste is kinda thin, sorta tastes/feels like sprite.. Pine-sol, some pepper from the rye, cinder and ash.

Easy to drink, maybe uninteresting. I dunno, well done, just nothing much to say
