I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from a beer store in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had bittering hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with light malt base and bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

12oz can with a 11/09/20 date.
Clear golden color with over a finger of head.I think a comparison to this beer would be Founders Centennial IPA lite only a bit more estery and with a crappier malt profile. Not a fan of crystal malt in hoppy beers. Light body and decent carbonation.

12oz can from the sampler
Very hop-forward, spicy, old-school almost, kinda like a homebrew.. honey, pine, hard water.. it's like a Surly version of SNPA, but too juicy and tropical. Lots of hop juice in this can - barely a light dusting of generic amber malts. Very flavorful for the ABV, but some problems here: it doesn't have much of a smell, the hops tend to go flat and metallic, and it's just a really boring beer that doesn't do much to justify it's existence - but I'm nit-picking
"Visionary, Hoppy, Classic" ... ... ... yeah, okay, it's only one of those. A crap pale ale but a great "IPA-lite". I'm barely getting any english ale flavors here, it's all buried under the hop. Good and tasty, but not to style. Remember when Surly was constantly innovating and doing crazy things? Yeah, this isn't that - get your act together

Appearance: Pours a mostly clear, but faintly hazed pale golden color with a massive white head. SRM of 8-9. (4.00)
Aroma: Moderately strong aromas of ripe orange peel upfront, but quickly followed and overpowered by a cinnamon apple and peach aroma that is sweet. Sort of like Christmas jam. Similar to the stonefruit found in Founders' Centennial.
Flavor: Flavor follows the nose with more cleansing orange citrus followed by a stonefruit and spice finish. Somewhat caramelly malts, but actually dry. The flavor reminds me very much of Two Hearted IPA. However, this is more dry and light.
Feel: Medium bodied. Strong and massive carbonation. Feels full on the palate which is drying. (4.25)
Compared to Seirra Nevada Pale Ale 12/3/20: Pours a lighter color with a larger head. Stronger aromas/flavors. More stonefruit, spice, fruit sweetness.
Compared to Summit EPA 12/3/20: Pours a similar color. Stronger fruity mandararin orange, stonefruit, cinnamon, peach. Less caramelly orange and earth/flower. More juicy overall and more like Centennial IPA. Similar English biscuit malt.
Overall: A very delicious pale ale here by Surly. I should have come to expect nothing less from them. This pale ale showcases the Centennial hops fantastically. It has the classic flavors of citrus, tropical, while hitting the spiced cinnamon apple/peach with caramel malts that seems to also present similar in Founders' Centennial IPA and Bells' Two Hearted IPA. I would say this is the Centennial or Two-Hearted, but in the form of a Pale Ale. Overall, an excellent pale ale with Centennial Hops and biscuit malts. (Final Rating: 4.06)

A bit thin for me but very drinkable. i prefer more heartiness, but this one will work for many. i would grab another one of these, not bad at all.
