We took a break from brewing our Wet Hopped West Coast Style IPA in 2014 while we moved into our new brewery so for 2015 we came back with a bang. Our 2015 edition features 6,000 lbs of Simcoe hops harvested from the Yakima region of Washington. We went all out in 2015 and brewed 600 barrels, TEN TIMES as much WET as we first brewed when we started wet hopping back in 2009. And, for the first time ever, WET distribution will reach our neighbors in Wisconsin, Iowa and Chicago in both draft and 16oz cans.

2024 batch. On to the beer:
Honey gold colored beer with a. Crop of creamy head and lace above. I can’t see aroma, so the look with have to settle. But I can smell things, and Surly Wet is aromatic and perfume-like with the hoppiness. A little dank and earthy with an echo of mango.
Smooth character throughout, oily feel, no bitterness, potentially dangerous to drink with its 7% ABV. Hop oil concentrate right here. Finishes on the dry side which leaves you wanting more.

Canned 9/19/24
Appearance: Pours a completely clear, medium golden color with a strong white head. SRM of 7-8. (4.25)
Aroma: Strong and deep aromas of orange, tangerine, pine resin. (4.00)
Flavor: Strong flavors of orange, tangerine, rich and sweet caramel malt in the middle with pine resin and citrus lingering off the end. Moderately bitter, but moreso sweet. Malty, smooth finish. (3.75)
Feel: Heavier-bodied, appropriate carbonation. Malty, sweet, smooth finish. (4.00)
Overall: A World-Class IPA from Surly since 2009. Various hop combos over the years. This has Citra, Mosaic, and Simcoe. Pours beautifully. The flavors are orange with sweet tangerine and pine resin. Lots of sweet caramel notes underneath. Not as bitter as I expected, but drinks somewhat reminiscent to Sierra Nevada's Celebration, which against popular opinion isn't my favorite.
It's good, but not sure about World-Class. Maybe in the historic context. It looks like this might replace their Abrasive IPA this year which I thought was a far superior IPA. Looks like I might miss that one this year.

2024 edition from a 160z can. Made with Citra, Azacca, & Cascade hops. Canned on 09/17/24
Somewhat clear golden pouring beer. There's a nice stream of carbonation bubbles rising in the glass. There's a beautiful and thick 3 finger white head. Head is fluffy looking and long lasting. Some nice lacing on the glass.
The hops aroma is there, and has tropical citrus notes to it. I do get some pineapple notes to it, and I also get some hints of pine. There's an earthy and grassy aroma to this beer that shows up to say hi.
Taste - There's a bit going on here. I am getting the earthy and grassy hit up front. The hops kick into greater gear with a pineapple hit. I also get a faint pine hit on the back with a mild and lingering bitterness. The hops aren't aggressive as standard hopped beers, but are there and a bit nuanced.
This is a very easy drinking beer for 7%, and it could be dangerous downing them fast. The bitterness feeling is pleasing. Smooth, very smooth feeling.
An interesting take on the wet hops, and I'm glad I bought the 2024 release.

I got a can of this beer from a beer store in La Crosse, WI. It poured a clear orangish with white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent had dank fruit malty hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with fresh floral hop presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.
