Whether you’re out on the mean streets or living in the lap of luxury, this complex and intriguing IPA speaks to you. Featuring the Sultana hop varietal—a relatively new hop centering notes of pineapple, lemony citrus, and pine—Mean Streets is a gritty, groundbreaking twist on the “new school” IPA. You don’t make up for your sins at church. You do it with a Mean Streets.

Good initial head, slight lacing, medium golden color
Primarily pine in the nose with a lingering dankness
Pine, bready malt, green pepper, black pepper, hint of pineapple, lingering grapefruit note.
Medium-high viscosity, well carbonated
Shades of furious, but a hair more dank. I enjoyed it.

From a 12oz can:
Appearance: Hazy yellow-gold, small head.
Smell: Citrus-grapefruit, hint of grape.
Taste: Moderately bitter citrus, medium body, somewhat bitter finish.
Overall: Last one from the mix pack, a pretty decent west coast IPA. Nothing too special or memorable about it, maybe I need more detailed notes!

CAN:
Lemon, juniper berries, pineapple, citrus.
Drinkable albeit a bit simplistic for an IPA in 2021. Lacks adequate hop pungency, resembling more a pale ale than an IPA proper with its shallow depth of hop flavour.

There is a lot of flavor and it punches you in the mouth. Expected for a beer called Mean Streets. It's a citrus explosion - lemon and grapefruit but not so much as to make you pucker. The pine plays nice with the flavors. Well done and a unique IPA. Never heard of a sultana IPA before.

Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy (35%), medium orange color with a strong white head. SRM of 10-11. (4.00)
Aroma: Moderate to strong aromas of orange, red grapefruit, some red orchard fruit, also some sour lemon & tropical pineapple. Some vanilla. (3.75)
Flavor: Strong flavors of orange, red grapefruit, sour orchard fruit and lemon, followed by some pine and cinnamon. Tropical fruit sweetness. Some caramel malt. Finishes fruity and dank. Minimal bitterness. (3.75)
Feel: Moderate to heavier body. Moderate carbonation. Soft mouthfeel, but finishes balanced. (4.00)
Compared to Odell's Mountain Standard IPA 5/13/21: Pours a darker color. More red grapefruit and nectarine. Less lemon and tart pineapple.
Compared to Surly Furious IPA 6/15/21: Pours a lighter and more orange color. More fruity aromas of lemon, pineapple, and orchard fruit. More sour. Less grapefruit, pine, and caramel. More juicy.
Overall: An interesting IPA with the Sultana hop and unique release from Surly. Always enjoy their IPAs. This one has some delicious orange, red grapefruit, sour lemon, along with some sweet pineapple and cinnamon. Fruity and dank as it's described which gives it a somewhat unique flavor. Some sour leather or whiskey? Not unlike their Furious, but more rich and fruity with less caramel and bitterness. Fruity, dank, and mean as described. A good IPA and the unique hop profile is interesting. (Final Rating: 3.84)

12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of citrus, grapefruit, subtle pine notes and bready malt. Sweet tropical fruit taste with toasted caramel and some piney bitterness.
