12oz can. Poured out a clear, golden amber color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of toasted caramel, toffee, orange, pineapple and resin. Nice fruity taste up front with toasted caramel and a sharp, piney bitterness.

Copper colored with a lightly hazy complexion. There’s a fingernail of creamy beige on top. Moderate, soapy lacing. The aroma is of melon, lemon, and lime. I’m tasting melon, lime, and lemon. The mouth is crisp and refreshing.

Appearance: Pours a clear, medium to deep golden-orange color with a strong and sticky white head. SRM of 11. (3.75)
Aroma: Mild aromas of orange citrus, grapefruit citrus, and some pine and berry notes. Underneath that there's this weird raspberry and meaty aroma. (3.75)
Flavor: Relatively mild flavors of orange, tangerine, with some pine spice in the middle. This is followed by a sweet biscuit (malt finish. Leaves some biscuit malt and pine bitterness on the finish, but balanced and relatively dry. (3.50)
Feel: Medium, but relatively lighter bodied. Moderate carbonation. Finish leave a biscuit malt and pine on the finish. Malty, but deceptively dry. (4.25)
Compared to Lagunitas Super Cluster 5/23/22: Pours a similar color. Milder aromas. More pine. Less tangeirne and Lagunitas yeast sweetness.
Overall: An imperial IPA, but hides it well. The flavors are nothing spectacular. Your typical citrus, pine, hints of berry. Vague biscuit malt. However, the finish is deceptively dry. Would not peg this at 9.2%. It hides the alcohol, which is what Surly does best. Some decent flavors here, but would like a little more for the ABV, but that's my bias against imperial IPAs. (Rating: 3.67+)

12oz can. Can bottom is stamped 'CANNED 01/19/22'. Bought as a single in a Bismarck ND liquor store.
Cloudy, medium amber colored body. Two fingers of frothy off white head quickly dissipates. Leaves behind some spots and strings of lacing.
Aroma has lots of citrus - grapefruit and orange, along with sweet bread.
Taste expresses the citrus fruits, with quite a bit of pith bitterness. Also has a dank woodiness. White wine at the end.
Medium mouth feel, but has a lightness to it. Very good carbonation.
Bitter, with a dank resin touch. Has a bit of sweetness, and the alcohol is hidden.

Poured from a can. Golden to orangish in color with a good sized head and lacing. Smells of pine, fruit, and biscuit. Slight bitter pine with tropical fruit flavors. Comes together quite nicely and hides the avb well. Very nice.

The look is murky copper. The smell is malty, bready, with light fruit odors, that whisper pear and apple, with a touch of white wine presence. The taste has that Surly distinctive bite. This is a lighter version of Abrasive. It has the delicately beautiful brutal bitterness that makes Abrasive so unique, but scaled down. Roman Meal bread, with grapefruit sweetness. The mouthfeel is grainy, thick, and full, with higher carbonation. Overall, this is about what I hoped for. A 12 oz. lighter version of Abrasive.

From a 12oz can:
Appearance: Gold with some particles in suspension, good head.
Smell: Starts with grapefruit, then more tropical fruit notes.
Taste: Nice solidly bitter arrival with plenty of citrus, then balances out with moderate sweetness and tropical fruit flavors. Kind of a citrus pith finish.
Overall: This is kind of a mix between an old school DIPA and the more modern takes on the style. Good bitterness but also features the tropical fruit notes that are more common today. A good beer!

12oz can, about a month old
Very slight haze, orange-amber w/ an off-white head. Smell is warm pine, grapefruit and dank. Taste is that instantly recognizable surly yeast, big blast of slick hops (citrus juice and pine tree) and warming alcohol. All the various hop tastes blend very well and the sweet malt and warm alcohol all complement each other. This is the first Surly IPA I've had in a while that was worth the money. Recommend
