Bridging the divide between a lager’s crispness and an IPA’s hop kick, Lacuna Cold IPA delivers the best of both worlds. Mind the gap.

On tap. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a small, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. it smelled of pine, orange, pineapple and sweet caramel. Nice tropical fruitiness with toasted caramel, toffee and pine.

Poured cold from a 12-ounce can into a tulip glass. Ever-so-slightly-cloudy pale yellow in color, with a light reddish-orange highlight and a finger of evanescent white head. First impression: grapefruit bomb, with a subtle crackery malt backbone and a dry and crisp finish. As it warms, lots of bitterness begins to come through on the back end. To me, this drinks almost like a brut IPA. It will be interesting to see how the style evolves. At any rate, this is an excellent beer.

Poured into a Nonic.
Pours light gold and crystal clear. Decent head. Limited retention. Good lacing.
Pale malts and citrus hops on the nose. Faint, but decent.
Pale grainy malts on the tip of the tongue and mid-palate. Lemony/grassy hops in midstream. Grass and flowers at the finish. Definitely channels some lager notes.
Medium-light bodied, which is an interesting accomplishment for a line-straddler IPA.
First foray into this "substyle." Like the "Brut IPA," we'll see if this one sticks. Unlike the steam beer, I'm not convinced this one is necessary. But it's interesting.
