12 fl oz can from a $21.99 USD plus tax variety box/12-pack.
"Black IPA." 6.5% ABV.
Bit roasty, bit chocolatey, bit mocha-redolent maltwise. Hop profile hits on fruity flavours and a bit of pine, but no resin or oil.
A better CDA than many I've tried, but not the top tier brew you'd expect from the brewery behind Darkness.

From a 12oz can:
Appearance: Black, good head.
Smell: Cocoa powder, pine.
Taste: Moderate roasted flavor to start, then then piney bitterness and a combination of piney bitterness and dark chocolate bitterness in the finish.
Overall: From the Surly mixed pack, this is a pretty good black IPA. The style is one I don't visit often as the roast/chocolate and hoppiness don't always mesh well. This is fine, but not one I'm super enthused about.

L: cola colored body with a foamy khaki head that holds decent retention
S: citrus, pine, fruit, burnt caramel, faint roast
T: roasted barley, caramel, cocoa, pine, grapefruit zest, earthy

12oz can canned 10/13/22 into a shaker pint glass.
L: Pours cola black w a 1+" creamy pock-marked khaki head w VG retention, low carbo, decent webby lacing w light banding & random light sheeting.
S: Sweet caramelized malts, grassy hops, light toastiness, a distant hint of smoke.
T: Toasty caramelized malts, a semi-sharp tart hop bite with grapefruit twang, dark bread, dark chocolate & cocoa, light char, a suggestion of coffee, a trace of molasses, gentle smokiness, bold taste overall w a long resinous linger.
F: Straight ahead big, bold med to med-heavy body w a long fairly drying finish. Very nice Ale feel.
O: Everything seems roasty and toasty in this fairly bitter and drying Ale. A great winter beer actually and fairly EZ drinking. The flavors stay centralized. It is very good in its style.

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate and toffee. Nice roasted malt taste with coffee, chocolate and toffee.

Pours an opaque dark brown with a thick tan head, decent retention, nice lacing. Aroma is mild, burnt coffee, dark roasted malt, not much else. Flavor is not much better than the nose, a mixture of coffee and roasted malt, some hop bite in the end. Feel is medium bodied and light on carbonation. Overall, a pass for me, never have been a fan of the "dark" IPA's and this isn't going to change my view. Blah.

Can. Tan head. No lace. Dark brown color.
Roasty, caramel, cocoa. Earthy, floral, resiny, grapefruit. Really solid black ipa. Almost tastes like furious base. Smooth and drinkable. Could use a little more bitterness though. I dig it.
