Appearance: Murky brown-amber, good head with interesting light rose coloring.
Smell: Dark chocolate-raspberry truffle. Cocoa powder.
Taste: Mildly tart dark fruit to start-must be the currants. Mild woodiness in the background, Mild chocolate note in the finish.
Overall: The second release in the bottle project by Surly. It's another interesting experiment, this time the barrel doesn't overpower things but stays in the background. Big currant flavor and kind of reminds me of a kettle sour at times.

On draft at the release party. Rose Khaki head. Plum brown color.
A lot of barrel and fruit. Pretty currant forward with a pretty decent amount of booze showing. Port blending with the currants, but bourbon heat in the finish. Oak and caramel. Berries, molasses.
Very unique bw. I think this one needs some time as it’s a bit harsh right now. I’ll revisit in the winter. Should age nicely if things round out a bit.

Bottled opened 8/24
Things have rounded out a lot. A bit more bw like. Less bourbon, more port, but rounded. Strong. Not as fruity as fresh which I like. Licorice and berries. 4.0
