Late Star is a classic British ESB, with a deep orange colour. The carefully selected English hops present a bouquet of lemon and grass with marmalade and caramel coming through on the tongue. The bottle conditioning works to present this beer in its purest form.

#1832 - Blind-tasted except for the beer's name and brewery/country, zero reviews below read (yet!)...
L- Strikingly deep orange. Seems to be about 90% filtered, ie just tiny haze in the glass and a hint of sediment in the bottle - ie the sediment left is likely more for appearance than to change it's taste/profile. Pours with a 2mm white head (later forms lacing on the way down).
S- Mild citrus notes though over suggestions of a possibly deep/more pungent body.
T- A brief orange note right on the front, some malts though not a deep as expected then into a hoppy dry vs slightly rich finish.
F- CO2 in the mouth is very good. It feels in the 5.8-7.2% kinda ABV zone.
O- As I work by way through it the orange note has diffused into the background. Now I get meaty, + hoppy-bright + subtle hoppy fruit notes. Pleasant and something different, though perhaps pitched at a bit of a younger crowd than myself.
Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the lables to see what I missed! They call it an ESB, well then perhaps it's a 'hipstered' ESB. Notes of: 'Lemon and grass, with marmalade and caramel'. 'Bottle conditioned' - well apparently.
330ml bottle £2.20 BB: 03/02/2022 Bought from TremblingMadness, York/UK as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

L4 Dark amber, great head
S4 Whisky malty
T4 Intriguing, deep and malty
F4 Medium body, good level of carbonation
O4 First beer of this style I've had. Very enjoyable twist on more standard 4% English bitters.

300ml bottle conditioned. Clear, rich amber colour with one finger of off-white head and spotty lacing. Light aroma of brown sugar. Tastes of vintage marmalade, raisins, black tea and lemon. Medium body with a slick mouth-coating and a dry finish. A new wave ESB: clean and refreshing; semi-sweet; bitter; oily mouthfeel; vine fruits with a citrus tang.
