I picked up a party pig full of Amber Waves Ale at the brewery this afternoon. I poured the beer into a pint glass.
Pours a nut brown color and is clear. A minimal quarter inch head forms and dissipates quickly to a thin film. There are many bubbles rising in the glass.
The smell is faint, slightly sweet and malty with hints of bread and yeast. There are also some fruity aromas.
The taste is earthy, a little nutty, with roasted grain flavors and sweet malts and a caramel flavor. There is just a hint of hop flavor. The aftertaste is mild and pleasant.
Mouth feel is light, crisp, and moderately carbonated.
This is a very drinkable beer. The flavors are mild and well balanced. The ale is refreshing and not heavy or filling. I could drink glass after glass of Amber Waves. This is a nice session beer, and would be good year round.
NOTE: This beer was discontinued, but re-released in February 2006
