I finally got my hands on a party pig of Rocky Coulee Heiferwizzen at the brewery to taste, review and enjoy. This beer has not been available for several months. I poured this beer in to a weizen glass.
Pours a deep gold color and is clear. A bubbly head forms, and is somewhat resilient, producing a little light lacing on the sides of the glass.
The smell is a little earthy. There is an aroma of grain, and a little fruit fragrance.
The taste is biscuity, with a pronounced malt backbone. There is a bit of a citrus fruit flavor and a mild hop finish. The flavors are reasonably well balanced, but there is a lot more malt presence than a typical hefe.
The mouth feel is smooth and creamy. The beer is mildly carbonated.
This is a very drinkable beer. ItÂ’s a nice variation on the style, and I will definitely have it again, when it is available.
