A 500ml bottle with a BB of Aug 2019. Acquired recently from ALDI. Described on the label as a robust bitter with hints of toffee apple.
A: Poured into a straight pint glass. A deep coppery-reddish colour with excellent clarity and good carbonation. Forms a decent head of frothy off-white foam that lasts for a moment before subsiding and dissipating.
S: Aroma of caramel malt with hints of barley sugar, mild fruitiness, ale yeast and stewed hops. OK - balanced but lacks impact.
T: Tastes of moderate caramel malt with notes of barley sugar, subtle grain, vague fruitiness, ale yeast, stewed hops and faint earthiness. Slightly sweet, followed by a robust leafy bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with prickly carbonation and decent body. Could be a tad thicker given the style. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of bitter stewed hops, caramel malt, faint grain and ale yeast.
O: It's OK but doesn't distinguish itself. Lacklustre looks; the head retention needs work. Aroma and flavour are a mix of caramel malt, ale yeast and leafy hops. So-so body; could be more substantial. An unexciting brew that doesn't really leave you wanting more. Give it a miss.
