Bottle with no label; I assume it is Kens IPA as I am aware of no other IPA from Aksarben
Clear, bronze-copper in hue with a tickle of tan infused; the color is lovely! Off-white head, at the apex the foam was two fingers tall. Head retention was good; the bubbles were slow to fall to a thin cap. The subsequent lacing was spotty but not widespread. This is a good looking beer.
Of the many AK beers I have smelled this is BY FAR the least offensive! Fruity, malty, caramely sweetness and I dont decent that hard water, metallic malt extract vibe that has plagued all their other beers. Thank god. However, I dont really smell any hops either. So, for an IPA the bouquet is a dud. For AK it is really good! No kid-gloves here, the nose is a bore and it is not inviting.
The palate is not offensive either! Score! I am not repulsed. Back to reality for an IPA this beer is a yawner. Minimal hop presences, almost no bitterness the malt is thin and it lacks a real feel. There are hints of fruit. Clean finish, no hoppy aftertaste; there is some lingering sweetness. The palate is hard to get behind. It is not awful or really flawed but it is really poor for an IPA or an APA. It is a nice try from this brewery though
Medium in body, the carbonation is lower than the other AK beers I have had and this helps the mouthfeel and the flavor profile *a lot*!
Drinkable? No. But the bottle is finishable, a first from this brewery. Not a real IPA. Not really that good. Not really something Id drink again. I am happy I got this bottle for free, thanks Bill. The rumors are true, this is the best beer AK has release to this point and I still cant recommend it.
