The Brewery says:
"Mikes Rye Not
aka: Boscos Roggenbier
Brewed for the GABFs Pro/AM Competition, this beer is collaboration between Boscos and homebrewer Mike Lee. The beer is a traditional German style rye (roggen) beer fermented with a strain of yeast that creates spicy clove character in the beer. This beer could be considered a heferoggen as it is similar to hefeweizen.
O.G. 1050 I.B.U. 15
I found this beer to perform much more like a Hefeweize than a true Roggenbier, but the beer is quite delicios. Opens with an intense aroma of bananna, clove, pepper, lemon, and cookie-dough; yet no real rye grain scent. Even the appearance is a typical hazy, hefeweizen look, with perhaps an orange/ rust color woven in. Well headed and retained well. The flavors take on those same wheat beer characters, but now with a noticable earthy / spicy rye flavor and a bitterness that is obviously not from hops, but is not bitey either. Lightly pungent, but ultimately juicy and mouthwatering. The texture if full and creamy; stops shy of rich or thick. On par with Ayinger Brauweiss in the mouthfeel. Finishes with one last punch of citrus, bananna and spice. Hat's off to Bosco's and to Mike!
