This was the best Maibock beer ever. I think I bought the last sixer in Columbia SC. I have three left waiting for a special occasion. I wish someone had taken up the flag and run with it.

RIP Rogue Brewery. Oregon will miss you. Also, probably check people’s IBU before you serve them more drinks. Seriously fucking disappointing that they got shutdown for negligent bartending.

Poured into a Burlington Beer Co. tapered glass. Bottom of can says Canned 09/24/2025
A- Pours a slightly hazy medium amber color with a half inch of off-white head that retains decently before becoming a solid layer of surface foam. Decent lacing action.
S- There's an almost cotton candy-like sweetness on the front end that gives way to toasted malt. Some short, sharp sniffs bring about some earthy hop character.
T- Less sweet than the aroma would lead you to think. Pretty clean, somewhat bitter from the hops. Has a very neutral flavor, but not in a light beer sort of way. Not enough malt character for it to be a Maibock. A little more bitterness on the back end, but overall I would not describe this beer as hoppy.
M- Sharp, tight with medium carbonation. A bit drying on the tongue.
O- I think I understand why this beer had gained as much popularity as it did in its heyday. It somehow managed to give a very neutral flavor profile with out seeming watery or bland. So people who weren't used to extreme flavors but wanted a craft beer would find it drinkable. One thing I can say with solid certainty is it is not a Maibock, so I'm dinging points for not being to style. All this said, I actually decently enjoy this beer. It's been ages since I've had it and, while I would never have it on regular rotation, I'd certainly enjoy having a pint of it every once in a while. Of course, sadly, that's not possible since production has ceased. So I'll enjoy what's left of what will likely be my last Dead Guy ale. RIP Rogue.

Pours a slightly hazy reddish brown color with one finger of off white foam with fair amount of lacing, from a twelve ounce can into a tulip glass. Aroma of yeast and bread, and some kilned malts. Flavors follow aroma with a slightly sour note.

From a 12 oz bottle, amber, clear, big beautiful thick white head with much foamy sustain. Rich malt aroma, candy-like, high hop aroma, black pepper, peaches and other stone fruit. Flavor similar to aroma, a bit subdued, red hots candy, slight alcohol warmth. High hop bitterness. Medium mouth feel, high carbonation. It tastes different this time, not as big but still good, while it lasts!

Copenhagen 2/7 2017. 35,5 cl bottle from Brønshøj Vinhandel, Brønshøj Torv. Skeleton with mug of beer and a funny hat on the label. Would fit right in at Day of the Dead or at an Grateful Dead gig.
Pours hazy amber with small white head. Moderate Lacing. Settles as thin patch of foam floating around.
Aroma has substantiel sweetness with honey, caramel and a nutty quality. Something sharp and sour lurking in the background.
Medium strong carbonation and slightly thick texture.
Flavor is strongly sweet followed by medium bitterness. Aftertaste of honey and nuts with a noticeable bitter undercurrent.
Malty and nutty affair not without a bitter charm. But a nice affair when it’s comes to that.

12oz CANNED 07/12/24 (16 months ago) poured into a perfect pint glass at fridge temp. Mostly bright medium amber. Lots of khaki head. Aroma is oxidized caramel malt. Taste is semisweet oxidized caramel malt. Had been meaning to get one of these to review and completely missed that it was from last year...

Look: Nearly clear red-amber with a low-medium off white head that has marginal retention.
Smell: Floral hops with light yeast.
Taste: Bready yeast with a great caramel finish.
Feel: High in the mouth with medium carbonation.
Overall: A very tasty classic brew that I’ll unfortunately never drink again. Oh well.

Canned 8/2/25; drank 11/26/25 @ the Yarchives.
Murky dark orange appearance.
A rough pour yielded a big tan head; frothy, tree-rung lacing remained.
Honey, oats & dry yeast notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Honey & some faint pine flavors up front; drying yeast notes on the finish.
This was...odd. Sweet like a maibock but with some drying, yeast-y notes that had shades of a pale ale or perhaps even a lager. It's drinkable, but I can't quite say I enjoyed it.

Pours rich amber with a foggy haze and fine particulates in suspension (SRM 6-8). A thin, creamy almond head quickly falls to a veil, leaving slight lacing on a seidel mug.
The aroma opens with strong toasted malt and a ton of melanoids. Caramelized sugar has light sweetness, while the background shows notes of wet pine needles.
Surprisingly bitter for the style, although not this brewer, and lacking the expected toasted malt. Celery and nut skins are prominent, with malt finally coming through only in big swigs after several minutes of warming. Toffee and floral notes (lavender?) show up late. The finish is long, with some male and light astringency.
This one has a medium body and texture similar to wet cotton. The alcohol is as expected, perhaps a touch lighter than expected, and the carbonation is modest.
Remembering this beer from many years ago, I had expected it to be very good, which was perhaps more hype than delivery. This one seems to be just okay, still enjoyable on a cool, sunny, Labor Day afternoon.
