This was a huge experimental beer brewed by New Zealand's Green Man Brewery. It seems to be a sort of blend or English Barleywine and Doppelbock.
Clear, dark, dark brown colour with no head.
Tick, sweet malt aroma with a toffee and chocolate note. Lots of bready melanoidin.
Sweet, thick and malty with lots of bready notes. The rich sweetness supports some dark fruit and prunes. Mild alcohol. Oddly, I like this even though it appears riddled with underattenuation, too much sweetness and some yeast stress.
Full body with moderate carbonation. Thick and syrupy.
A big, thick and over the top beer. It's not as good as it could be. A touch more attenuation, slightly less bready malts and more bitterness would make this really good.
