Initial aroma is similar to the original: pleasantly spicy peppers sprinkled with hints of the resinous Shinshū Wasē hops, followed by some sake lees-like rounded sweetness from the Miyama Nishiki rice.
Unlike its purported older brother, however, there's also a faint yet bouquet of citrus in the form of grapefruit, pineapple and orange. The end note on the nose is peppery, however, much like the original.
Pleasant grapefruit and lemon-peel like bitter is balanced on the palate by the same mild orange-like citrus from the nose; whereas I remember the original to be quite mild until the last drop, the little sister refuses to go down without a fight, and finishes considerably dry and bitter.
Medium-light bodied with the same signature spritzy mouthfeel and gentle carbonation. I don't think this serves as the best showcase of HBC-291, but it definitely is a great summer brew, worthy of being gulped down in exactly two minutes' time.
