A 330ml bottle with a best before date of 28th May 2024. Poured into a snifter glass.

Appearance: Black in colour with no head and no lacing.

Aroma: Roasty dark malts, chocolate, coffee, oak, alcohol, dark fruit, prunes, plum.

Taste: Light roasty dark malts, chocolate, coffee, oak, slight boozy, sweet, molasses, dark dried fruit, prunes, dried berries, and maybe a hint of apples.

Mouthfeel: Creamy, full bodied with soft carbonation.

Overall: An excellent sipper with largely well hidden alcohol. I think I even preferred this slightly more than the Tequila barrel version as its not as sweet.

Pours a viscous, completely black color, with almost no head. Leaves back a nice, beige lacing though, with some alcohol legs in the centre of the glass.

The aromas reveal a gentle apple warmth among oak and malt infused earth. Also produces a cinnamon quality, resulting from the warm, alcoholic apple, accompanied by the pleasantly pronounced, slightly biting barrel. This gets topped off by a milk chocolate frosting, creating a rich, enjoyable nose.

Has a very low carbonation, showcasing the beers very smooth mouthfeel, as well as its full body. Drinks almost oily.

Tastes of earthen, toasty malts, turning sweeter as silk milk chocolate gets introduced to the taste. Cinnamon, as well as warm wood, becomes visible then, turning the taste a tad sweeter, without pushing it too far by any means. Apple rises from the barrel, producing a well integrated alcoholic warmth, immediately wrapped up by earthy, roasted coffee. Its peak of cinnamon, apple, chocolate, charred malts and coffee is a delight, leaving the palate satisfied, with long lasting coffee in the finish.

A great beer, revealing a fantastic mix of different, well composed flavors, preventing itself from becoming too extreme in any particular way. Its got a pleasant bite to it, perfectly coated up by smooth chocolate.
