Ahh, Mikkeller.

A - 330ml pours to a pint glass a light copper color, a bit hazy with some slow-rising bubbles. Tall white foam falls and retains nicely at a solid half-finger and leaves bits of lace.

S - Husky grain, light caramel, some papery tones. Could be mistook for any adjunct lager to be honest.

T - A lot more going on here, also no paper/meh-ness. A decent floral+lemon hop kick is revealed, on the sweet side for a pils with a mix of caramel, cereal and grain.

M - Big feel and soft carbonation for the style, certainly on the malty side of things rather than crispy. A bit sweet, a little bit bitter and quite drinkable.

O - Other than the mundane nose a decently enjoyable pils, but not one I'd particularly reach for.

Best before 11/20/16.

Pours a murky honey orange with a foamy beige head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, grass, earth, and chalk aromas. Taste is much the same with grass, citrus fruit, and chalk flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a decent smell, but the flavors are much better to me.

Serving type: bottle.

a pils is rarely a pils with mikkeller. in fact, any style is rarely what you expect with his beers, and this is no exception. its quite boldly hopped, and has just a slightly darker look to it than the yellow and gold thing we always see in the style. there is just a bit deeper grain profile to this, still german pils all the way, but maybe a kiss of a slightly caramelized barley malt gives it a rusty glow in the right light. it has a richer bready base too, not dusty and dry like other german pilseners, but longer and a little sweeter, certainly fuller bodied. no sure if their are any crazy additives in this, but i wouldnt be surprised to learn rice or something starchy was in here, it has that bigger feel. the hops are large too for what it is, bitter enough to balance whats here, but also floral and summery too, giving a springy lightness to a style that usually misses that. not the most involved or complicated of the mikkeller beers, not by a long shot, but i would be more than happy to make a day of this anytime. one of his better lagers in my experience.
